this has been an uncharacteristic weekend for me .. well, except for
friday.
last night
i went to a brewery and tonight .. well, the title says it: i went with friends to the
magic stick to see a show by a "gypsy punk band" named
gogol bordello.
anyways, lessons and observations:
- leave the leather jacket in the car.
if it weren't for the fact that i was standing near a window and that it was 39oF outside, i probably would have been a hideous mess.
- when someone tells you that they really love billiards, it usually means that they're quite good. geordie, an friend of alan's by way of freiberg, is a testament to this fact.
on a related note, billiards is a game of finesse, and gauge your strength carefully. on one shot the ball flew off the table and nearly struck geordie, and on another, i missed the target and the recoil sunk the 8-ball into a nearby pocket.
- never underestimate females in the band.
for instance, there were two women in this band and their roles were percussion and theatrical; one had cymbals and the other a big, marching band drum. i'm completely serious.
the one with the drum had one big woolly drumstick, and she struck the thing with flair in her technique; it's a motion i've only seen before in escrima stick fighting.
moreover, this woman passed the big drum to the mosh crowd, and as they held it upright she got up on it and kept pounding to the beat! it was amazing and crazy; her head was a foot or two from the ceiling, and if the drum held her weight, it must have been reinforced and heavy for the crowd.
- lastly, the ringing in your ears will stop .. after a while.
