I've been playing lots of Crisis Core lately, which has been interfering with just about all other activities. I kind of adore Zack, he's hilarious. Due to my strange perversity of spirit, I am playing Crisis Core as a dating sim in which Zack is trying to score with every other character in the game.
Except for Hojo, 'cause Hojo's creepy.
It made for some awesome hilarity, believe you me. Zack was doing pretty well, too-- I think Angeal was sewn up ("I . . . I admire you so much, Sempai!" And come on, he gave Zack the Buster Sword . . . symbol of his precious honor! And then there was the whole liking dogs thing-- "the greater the bother, the cuter the dog"-- and finding out he thought of Zack as a puppy-- and Zack's totally a bother-- yeah, SEWN UP), and Genesis was constantly quoting poetry at Zack and giving him apples so that one was done, and Aeris was TOTALLY a score (three flower wagons? You better believe it!), and Cessnai too for that matter-- even SEPHIROTH was requesting Zack for missions because "he's the only one I can trust"-- oh yeah the flirting was getting pretty heavy, at least until Sephie went batshit. Of course, then the game took a turn for the depressing, and my dating sim scenario kinda fell apart. Until Cloud turned into a vegetable, that is. And bad guys started showing up going "WE WANT HIS BODY." So of course Zack has to defend him!
Oh, Squeenix.
So yes, this is how I keep myself amused.

My mother is an adjunct professor at a community college. She hates it, because the students are awful, the pay is awful, and no matter what she does she's treated poorly and gets no respect from anyone. Probably that last is what bothers her the most.
She was depressed about it when I last spoke to her on the phone. Of course it's a story that I've heard many times over the years. It's hard to know what to say that will help, or turn her mood around, or at least make her laugh (the very best cure for a bad mood). Sometimes I can pull it off, sometimes I can't-- I thought this would be one of the "can't" times. And then I said,
"You know what, Mom? You need to be Batman!"
My mother, understandably, was confused. "Batman?"
"Yeah, Batman. So your biggest problem is really that you don't get any respect at work, right? That doesn't change, hasn't changed in a real long time. But that's what you really want, right? So you need to find something else. Something that you do outside of work that will get you that. Respect first-- maybe money later, maybe not, but it's the respect that's important. Then you'll be like Batman, see? So every time someone's disrespecting you at work, you can just shrug and go, 'Who cares? This is just what I do during the day-- at night I'm Batman!' Find something that'll let you be Batman."
My mom paused in startled silence for a moment, then started laughing. "When did you become so wise?"
"Dude," I said, "I'm Batman!"
