I tell you that I'll always want you near

"I've done everything I can for you."

My father saying that to me was the most depressing thing I have ever heard.

so this is christmas, introspection, memory, emptiness

I have done nowhere near everything I can do for you, and I'll keep at that for the rest of the time we know each other - because I think we never stop doing what we can for friends and family.

And how I meant that to come across: I'm sure your father thinks he's done everything he can for you because you've grown up to be awesome, fabulous adult. However, I don't think he'll ever stop doing for you because family never does. Especially not if he's anything like you =)

I thank you for your kindness; sorry for not responding sooner. The issues involved are so complicated and so many that I wasn't sure how to respond to sympathy-- but I appreciate it nonetheless. :-)

It's not so much my father abandoning me, it's more . . . that he believes absolutely in the nearness of his own death, and that . . . well. He is right, though perhaps not in terms of time frame: some day, it will come. He will not and cannot always be there for me to depend on. When that day comes, the only refuge I will have will be the ones I've built myself.

I thank you for your kind words; sorry it's taken me so long to respond. There are too many deep feelings involved for words to come easy.
