I deserve a medal.

Or better yet, a week's worth of awesome food, all the chocolate I care to eat, a new book, and some great anime.

And about fifteen good Saiunkoku fanfics.

One of the cats, Ensei, got out. I took a flashlight and quartered the neighborhood for about an hour. I finally came back to the house to see if he'd been found. I couldn't find my roommate, so I figured she must be out searching. I sat down on the front stoop just in case the cat came back.

I heard meowing. This turned out to be Jackl, our outdoor cat, coming by for some petting. I heard meowing. This turned out to be Shunki, still shut up inside. I sat for a while. I heard something. I called, "Ensei?" There was silence. I meowed. Silence. I listened. I heard a faint meow coming from the back of the house.

I walked back slowly, and managed to catch a glimpse of white-- the cat! He disappeared under the neighbor's porch, so I squatted down and called him and made come-hither-kitty noises. Eventually he became curious enough to come out and sniff at my outstretched hand, at which point I caught his collar.

I locked both cats up in my room. My roommate was still gone, I had no idea where, so I went out to comb the neighborhood for her. I emailed her phone to let her know that I had caught the cat. I tried to call her phone, no result. I kept looking. This continued for a good long time, maybe half an hour.

At 2 AM I gave up and headed back. I checked the tatami room, where my friend's mom and sister were sleeping, one more time.

. . . and three sleepy faces turned towards me at the loud rumbling of the door. My roommate had been there the whole time.

It's 2:06 AM. I've been awake since 7 AM, and on my feet since 8 AM. Every part of me from the navel down hurts, and my head has decided to join in. Forget about taking a shower or hanging up the laundry. I am GOING TO BED.

cats, life stuff
