eReader Update- Free Books!!

I bought a Kobo eReader Clara BW model for $129 back at the beginning of September. I'd grown frustrated with my Kindles. The Kobo has changed my reading like you wouldn't believe!! It's so much easier to deal with than a Kindle. Not only is it simple to add books, it's easy to take them off. Plus the battery lasts a really long time, about four or five books of full reading time long.

But by far the BEST feature is the OverDrive connection. I can sign into my library, go through the digital library, which is extensive, and check out any book that's available or put a hold on something that's not. It's so damn easy, it's amazing. I borrow the book and return it all with a press of a button. It's saving me buckets of money and time. I don't have to actually go into the library unless I want a book that doesn't have an electronic version.

Don't get me wrong. I still love going to the library and checking out a bag of books, but the easy access to any eBook they have at any time is like a miracle to me. I've checked out so many books that I would've missed otherwise. I don't really have the budget to buy every book I want to read. The cost of books whether they're digital, a paperback or hardback is pretty steep and I'm on a fixed income. This is one happy deal, free books with the click of a button. Thank you, Kobo and OverDrive.

I'm just so glad I invested in the Kobo eReader. I still use my Kindles for some things because I've already got them, but I will never buy another. The newest one in my collection has a horrible battery life and needs to be recharged about every five to six days even when I never use it. The other one isn't connected to Amazon because I bought 12 years ago and never registered it, so I use it to read or download from AO3.

Speaking of Kindles, I recently saw that there's a new generation 14 that just came out and guess what? It won't even let the owner connect it to their own computers to transfer or "side load" their own books or other articles onto the device. WTF? That would mean that Amazon would control what you could put on there. They pretty much do that now, but this makes it even worse. There's no work around that I can see.

So, to sum it up, bless Kobo for including OverDrive on their readers. I highly recommend that if you're in the market for a good eReader and want access to hundreds of free books from your local library with no fuss, try it.
