CHARACTER NAME: Aaron Grey
FANDOM: Movie - The Breed (2001)
CHRONOLOGY: After the events of the movie
CLASS: Hero
SUPERHERO NAME: N/A
ALTER EGO: Detective Aaron Grey, local police for the vampire community
BACKGROUND:
Aaron Grey, as a human, was a Polish Jew during the rise of the Nazi regime. When the move from the ghettos to the concentration camps was ordered, he decided to flee with his wife and daughter. Taking underground routes until they reached the forests, they managed to outrun the German soldiers that pursued them. It was, however, the middle of winter, and while they escaped, the wife and daughter succumbed to the freezing temperatures, and Aaron was soon to perish as well. At this time, a vampire named Freidrich Cross came across him, turning him into a vampire and sending Aaron to take revenge on the German soldiers by slaughtering them and drinking their blood.
At the present time of the movie, Aaron Grey is the chief Detective of the Serenity Police department, a vampire community founded and led by Cross. The community is split over Cross’ revelation to the human totalitarian state concerning their existence. To make matters worse, it appears that a member of the community who opposes the coexistence has made a political statement by killing women in the area and making it obvious that a vampire is doing it.
Trust is hard to come by, and there is much double-crossing and misleading in the pursuit of the murderer, while Aaron tries to work with a human cop, Grant, who thinks of vampires as something to be exterminated, then feared, and eventually, as he and Aaron gain each other’s respect, to be trusted.
Aaron is in the end, double-crossed by Cross, who slashes his throat, bringing him within an inch of his life, and leaving him going nearly insane from lack of blood. Capturing Grant, he sticks Aaron on the other side of a glass door from Grant, both men imprisoned. It takes every ounce of Aaron’s willpower to keep from killing Grant when the door is opened, and instead, finds the strength to break out of the prison and attack Cross.
In the end, through teamwork between a nearly-dead Aaron, and a well-beaten Grant, they kill Cross using silver bullets and a grenade, and save the last victim. While the political situation between humans and vampires is still tense, the resolution of the situation, and the success of Grey and Grant has helped improve the situation.
PERSONALITY:
Experiencing the Holocaust has left Aaron a scarred man. The loss of his wife and daughter is simultaneously his most powerful, and crippling memory. His enemies have a habit of needling the issue, and while he’s had nearly 70 years to live with the memory, it has not lost its potency.
His greatest regret is not just the loss of his family, but also the way in which he exacted his revenge. It was here where he was turned to a vampire by Cross, and sought out the nearest Nazi outpost, locating the soldiers who had chased his family into the forest. He kills them all, losing his mind as he drains them of their blood savagely. He is startled by his own brutality, and his regret over the situation stays with him.
It is this haunting memory that he uses to keep from attacking Officer Grant after Cross has locked them together in a holding cell, expecting a starved Aaron to kill the man. His willpower is staggering; earning an impressed comment from Cross before Aaron breaks out of the holding cell using only his brute force, as he focuses his memories to direct his bloodlust-driven instincts for survival on escape, instead of killing Grant.
Aaron has been, and always will be a family man. While he never remarried, he’s extremely dedicated to his community and is very familiar with many of the local vampires, if not on a friendly basis, then a professional one. Most of his time however is spent working alone, tracking down the deviants and criminals in service to the people he’s sworn to protect. He puts the lives of others above his own, even if he doesn’t agree with them, or thinks poorly of them.
He is very quick to take offense, and finds stereotypes frustrating and often infuriating, especially when others attempt to apply the label to him. He has a short fuse when this happens, but his self control and willpower allow him to maintain the appearance of composure as he warns the offender that they are treading on thin ice. If he’s pushed, he will lash out, first verbally and then physically. He has enough control not to hurt the offender, but he will shove them around.
Aaron has trouble trusting others, and as a result, has worked hard to hone his ability to detect when people are lying. He takes a professionally courteous approach when he deals with liars, but does not tolerate such antics for long, and will resort to other means of gaining information from individuals if they try his patience. He is not beyond a small measure of subterfuge to get what he needs to continue with a case, should the occasion call for it.
POWER:
Walking in Daylight - though he is a vampire, daylight only provides a minor irritation, so Aaron wears sunglasses when he finds it bothersome. There is no bursting into flames or burning of the skin.
Vampire abilities - super strength (can technically lift a truck by the fender, throwing, is not possible without extreme efforts); heightened senses (smelling when a person has been nearby, hearing a man’s heartbeat); improved speed; fast healing; climbing vertical, nearly smooth surfaces
[CHARACTER SAMPLES]
COMMUNITY POST (FIRST PERSON) SAMPLE:
[Video - A man in sunglasses with a moderate, Eastern European accent speaks. He sounds annoyed as he talks, keeping his words quiet, which means his lips don’t move much.]
I have been unable to locate the local NSA headquarters, or my own department for that matter. Perhaps I could get the number to the local police, if someone would be so kind as to supply it. I’d rather prefer to talk to an officer. I understand I’ve been brought here to help with the current situation of the city, and I would like to work with the local department, if at all possible.
In the meantime, I am under the impression that I will be here for a while.
[He sighs, reaching into his coat and pulling out a very small vial with a reddish liquid in it. He looks hesitant as he holds it in his hand, not showing the label on its side.]
I will require the assistance of a chemist for the duration of my time here. I would be willing to discuss details of any arrangement in person. I’ll be living in the MAC apartments until further notice, so it would be best to contact me using the communicator number this transmission is attached to.
LOGS POST (THIRD PERSON) SAMPLE:
Aaron sat at his desk, faint trails of light streaming through the shades. It wasn’t enough to bother his eyes more than a slight irritation, and so he ignored it as he tapped a pencil on the document before him. He was trying to fill out a report concerning a human who had been going around on some damned, self-righteous crusade to destroy the vampires in the area. He wished he could condemn them for their actions, give them no excuse for murder, but since his arrival, he had learned such wasn’t the case.
It had been an unfortunate revelation to discover vampires in The City ranged from simple men just trying to survive, to murderous savages, and many parts of the spectrum in between. There was no community here, only survival, and it was almost more disheartening than when he had been betrayed by the man who had once saved his life. He felt as if he had no kind here like himself, no friends, and the one human he’d finally learned to trust was also gone.
His head was beginning to throb now and he dropped the pencil, retreating to the small kitchen area. He retrieved a cup of poorly-brewed coffee, before pulling out a small vial of blood substitute, shooting it down with a grimace, and chasing the foul-tasting stuff with the swill. The corner of his mouth twitched as he tried to ignore the twist his stomach gave. The caffeine would help keep him going a little while longer, and so he finished up the cup, before tossing it into the trash.
He missed his office, his town, and his kind. He might even admit to himself that he missed Grant’s incessant banter. As he walked back to his desk, he bit back a snarl as the shades on the window nearest him were suddenly raised to permit the brilliant afternoon rays to fall in full force on him and his desk. He squinted painfully, but instead of complaining, he simply sat down, donned his sunglasses and got back to work.
FINAL NOTES ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER:
Weaknesses - vampires in this incarnation are allergic to silver, the body will not heal properly until the bullet is removed.
