...and I see boxes. Lots of boxes.
I started packing today. It actually isn't going too terribly bad. I've got most of the little things packed up already. I'm saving clothes until Sunday, and I'll split up everything else between the next two days or so. Tomorrow morning Mom and I are going to Wal-Mart in the morning and then I am running errands in the afternoon. I need to:
*Call five jobs to set up interview times (they told me last week when they called me to call back this week since they don't schedule more than a week in advance)
*Call the utility company to switch the electric to my name
*Call my insurance agent to get renter's insurance
*Change my address at the post office
*Close my savings account and transfer the balance to my checking account, which I will eventually run out and then close since there are no First Mid's in Westmont or anywhere north of Mattoon really.
It's gonna be a busy day, and I'll probably just end up pushing back packing until Thursday and Friday. Although...Thursday night I am going down to Collinsville to visit Johanna and give her her Christmas gift. I'll be spending the night and returning Friday around noon or so.
Let me rewind and catch you all up to speed...although most of you already have heard this news.
Derek and I are moving into our apartment in Westmont on Monday. Even though his magic-card-selling-deal fell through, I scraped together enough money to put down a deposit, and we were approved for the apartment as of yesterday. There goes my wedding dress fund...although hopefully I'll have it built back up by February since that's when I would like to order my dress (since I'm frugal, I've found the cheapest way possible to get a NEW dress (not used), and even the one I really want!).
I have one interview on Tuesday and another on Friday. Once I call these five other places, I should be able to fill up the week with interviews so I can hopefully have an offer or at least a second interview by Christmas. Derek will be going back to Cheeseburger in Paradise full time and hopefully he'll be getting a raise as well. If everything works out like it should, we should be comfortable money-wise and I won't be so stressed out and worried about it. We have two large payments to make to William Tell in January for the wedding, and another payment on April 1. After that, we will actually be making the big menu decisions and whatnot (cake included!) and then we will make our final payment. When we first looked at the place, I was honestly really worried about paying around $10,000 for a wedding by ourselves. However, I knew that this was the place I wanted...it is just so cool. I know that we will host the best wedding ever, and you will all have an amazing time!
I can't believe that in less than a week, I will be moving three and a half hours from my family. Except for the time I was at EIU, and the year I lived in Charleston after graduating, I have never lived anywhere but in this house. Derek was really sweet the other day (yes, that happens sometimes)...he realized that he never actually "asked" me if I wanted to live up north. We had gone to a Christmas party the night before at my brother's house and I think he realized upon seeing me with my family, my extended family, and all of my work friends and other friends that are in the Effingham area that I'm leaving behind a lot. But ever since I was at EIU, I've seen the opportunity that a larger city is able to offer me, and there's really nothing here, except for a lot of the people I love. Sometimes, though, love isn't all you need (sorry Beatles, I love you and all, but...). If I can't find a decent job here...if I can't use the degree I worked hard for five years to earn...I'm going to be miserable, even if I am surrounded by family and friends. I have friends near Chicago that I haven't seen nearly enough in the past few years, and I honestly love it up there. Every time I'd go up to visit this summer, when the train rolled into the city and I saw the skyline, it felt more and more like where I should be. And it's ONLY three and a half hours from home...and if I want to come home, all I have to do is jump on a train and be here in 1/6 of a day. I could almost go home on a whim if I really tried. :)
Okay, this is getting long and I should finish up what I set out to do online. You probably won't hear from me until after we get moved, so wish us luck!
