1. I probably talk too much about my cat. But here's the thing. My favourite place to do computery things of the leisurely variety (reading and writing fic, checking my email, reading LJ, etc.) is seated on the floor, basically kneeling on the carpet with my elbows resting on the floor. It's unergonomic BUT it's by the heater. My cat's preferred position while I do this is sitting on the table that my back makes, with his little face squished into the back of my hair. Purring. He is there now, I love him, he is the friendliest loveliest little guy in the world.
2. Today I went to see movies twice with my friend Sophie. We saw Iron Man and Indiana Jones and the thingy about the thingy. Both were fun in a kinda crappy way. I actually thought Iron Man was well crafted etc. and RDJ and Gwyneth Paltrow and Jeff Bridges were all pretty good. I have to say, though, I'm SICK TO THE TEETH of "evil Arabs." Even though IM had a potentially interesting message about non-proliferation, the big epiphany of the central character (an arms manufacturer) only happened when he saw that his bombs and shit had fallen into the hands of "those murderers." Presumably if they'd been safely in the hands of the US military fighting for freedom the world over, it would have been okay. I know it's a chicken-and-egg situation but when oh when is Hollywood going to stop making films that serve only to justify and reinforce American foreign policy in the Middle East in this way?
3. Borders sale! Whee! I'm not that rich at the moment but I bought three books for a total of $7.93. They include: Come a Stranger by Cynthia Voigt, Changing Planes by Ursula K. Le Guin (in hardback! for $1.98!) and a collection of Brian Friel plays. Such RICHES.
4. The weather. I probably talk about the weather too much, but hey, it's New Zealand, we're a little island and the whole thing is very dramatic. You know how I wrote about snow on the weekend? Today it's 18 degrees at 8pm, and people are walking around in shorts. It's like summer.
5. BigBang! So much good stuff, and even better, it really seems to have put a smile on the dial of the fandom generally. We're pretty lucky to have such awesome talent around. And also, such an appreciative audience for that talent. It feels very enlivening and happy, which is EXACTLY the way I like it.
