Title: An Adventure (Without Pants)
Author: greta_garbo
Fandom: Community
Pairing: Jeff/Annie
Word Count: 908

Disclaimer: All your characters are belonging to Harmon.
Notes: Holy crap, it feels so good to actually write and finish something! Even if it is less than 1000 words. It's been so long. This is from the first prompt from my Quotations Prompt project. ( would love, love, LOVE it for everyone to stop by and leave a quote. Just go here.) The quote was "Between safety and adventure, I choose adventure." - Craig Ferguson.

“I told you this was a terrible idea!” Annie whisper shouted , trying not allow any part of her body to brush too closely to Jeff’s as she took in quick, angry breaths.

“It’s not that bad,” Jeff tried to reason in a much calmer tone.

“Oh really?” she asked, nearly hysterical. “Which part isn’t that bad? The part where we’re trapped inside the walls of Greendale, or the part where neither of us are wearing pants?”

A long moment of silence followed. Finally, after seconds of thought, Jeff replied, “I didn’t say it wasn’t bad. I just said it wasn’t that bad.”

They both fumed in silence, trying to ignore their close proximity and their lack of pants.

But Annie couldn’t suffer in silence. “This is the sort of idea that Troy or Abed would have!”

“Well, no wonder you fell all over yourself to join me.”

“I didn’t fall all over myself to… wait, what’s that supposed to mean?”

“Nothing. Forget it.”

“No, Jeff. What do you mean?”

Jeff gritted his teeth, not wanting to answer, but knowing that there was no way of knowing how long they would be stuck there. It could be hours. Hours that would be considerably less tolerable with Annie continually pestering him. “It’s just that you’ve been spending so much time having adventures with your roommates lately that the rest of us practically have to think of something ridiculous to get you to spend any time with us.”

Annie gaped at him. “They’re my roommates. We live together. Of course we spend a lot of time together.” She paused, her lips pursed in thought. “Wait, are you jealous of Troy and Abed?”

“Psh. Jealous? Me? What? No. Jealous?”

“It certainly sounds that way.”

“I’m not jealous.”

“This is ridiculous Jeff! Now you’re jealous of Troy and Abed? It was bad enough when it was Vaughn and Rich, but Troy and Abed? Jeff, they’re our friends.”

Jeff sighed. “It’s not like that.”

“Then please explain to me what it is like.”

Jeff began to fidget uncomfortably. Unfortunately, the fidgeting brought his pants-less body into closer contact with Annie’s pants-less body, and he was suddenly uncomfortable in more than just the emotional way.

“It’s just…” he grunted in frustration. “I hate talking about these sorts of things. I suck at it.”

“Well, take your time.” Annie sniped. “It’s not like we don’t have any.”

“You say that like nobody’s ever going to find us.”

“What if they don’t?” Annie said, unspooling. “What if we die in here?”

“Annie, don’t be - “

“And then they only find our bodies because of the stench! I won’t be remembered for my perfect GPA! I’ll only be remembered as the girl whose body stunk up the science building!”

“Annie! Stop! If you calm down, I will… talk about my feelings, okay?”

Annie took a few deep breaths. “Okay,” she replied, though the panic didn’t quite leave her eyes.

Jeff took a few deep breaths himself. In an attempt to avoid her eyes he looked down at his feet, forgetting their mutual pants-less situation. In a slight panic, he moved his eyes to a spot somewhere over Annie’s shoulder. “Okay, here goes nothing… It’s just… it used to be you and me having adventures. Winning debates, you fake-murdering me, having feuds with tiny Asians of both sexes. But ever since you moved in with Troy and Abed you’ve been spending less time having adventures with me and more time having adventures with them.”

Looking back at Annie, he was surprised to see the fear completely gone from her eyes, replaced with the full on Disney face. “I didn’t realize that you and I had spent less time together,” she said quietly.

“Well, we have.”

“I’m sorry,” she replied quietly. “But if you think that I’m choosing having adventures with them over having adventures with you, you’re wrong.”

“You’re trying to tell me you haven’t been spending more time with them than you have been with me?”

“No, but I am saying that we haven’t been having adventures like you and I have had.”

“You haven’t?”

“No! Jeff, what do you think? That Troy, Abed and I go home every afternoon and get involved in wacky hijacks? That’s silly! Most nights we sit around and watch Inspector Spacetime. In all honesty, living with Troy and Abed is a little boring. Sure, sometimes I have to clean out a wound, but usually it’s pretty quiet.”

“Really?”

“Really.” She smiled coyly at him. “So from now on if you want to spend time with me, just ask. You know, instead of coming up with a ridiculous idea that involves us getting stuck in the walls without pants.”

Jeff winced. “That transparent, huh?”

“Yeah.” Annie’s smile made Jeff’s heart beat faster.

“Just for the record, though, the whole ‘losing our pants’ part was not part of the plan.”

“Noted.” After a beat, she added. “I’m still a little mad at you for this, though.”

Grinning, Jeff said, “Hey, would you rather be having this possibly dangerous adventure with me, or would you rather be home with Troy and Abed watching TV, bored out of your mind?”

Anne just smiled.
