Yeah.... I'm not sure where this came from. Let's just leave it at that.
Mostly Fred Astaire because... well, because he kicks ass and I have lots of him on my computer.
Maybe listen to the mix while reading the fic I wrote based on quotes from Fred Astaire/Ginger Rogers movies,
Let's Face the Music and Dance.
Lyrics excerpts and download links behind the cut.
01. I Won't Dance - Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers (from the film Roberta)Jeff POV
You know what, you're lovely
You know what, you're so lovely
And you know what you do to me
I'm like an ocean wave that's bumped on the shore
I feel so absolutely stumped on the floor
...
I won't dance, why sould I?
I won't dance, how could I?
I won't dance, merci beaucoup
I know that music lead the way to romance
So if I hold you in arms.... I won't dance
I kind of feel the need to explain this one, because the lyrics themselves don't quite have the same effect without the way Astaire sings the last line. And even the song doesn't do it as well as seeing it in the film. Basically, he really does want to dance with her, but he knows the second she's in his arms he's not going to be dancing, he's going to be doing... other things. He knows he'll lose all self control. Sadly, the video is no longer on YouTube.
02. I'll String Along With You - Dick Powell and Ginger Rogers (From Twenty Million Sweethearts)Jeff POV
For every little fault that you have
Say, I've got three or four
The human little faults you do have, honey
Just make me love you more
You may not be an angel
But still I'm sure you'll do
So until the day that one comes along
I'll string along with you
Here's the scene from Twenty Thousand Sweethearts
03. I'm Putting All My Eggs In One Basket - Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers (From Follow the Fleet)Jeff/Annie POV
I've been a roaming Romeo
My Juliets have been many
But now my roaming days have gone
Too many irons in the fire
Is worse than not having any
I've had my share and from now on
I'm putting all my eggs in one basket
I'm betting everything I've got on you
...
I've tried to love more than one
Finding it just can't be done
Baby there's one I lie to
When I try to be true
To two
Here's the scene from Follow the Fleet
04. Let's Call the Whole Thing Off - Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers (From Shall We Dance)Jeff/Annie POV
You like potato and I like potahto,
You like tomato and I like tomahto;
Potato, potahto, tomato, tomahto!
Let's call the whole thing off!
But oh! If we call the whole thing off,
Then we must part.
And oh! If we ever part,
Then that might break my heart!
So, if you like pajamas and I like pajahmas,
I'll wear pajamas and give up pajahmas.
For we know we need each other,
So we better call the calling off off.
Let's call the whole thing off!
I couldn't find a video of the song, but
here's the dance the do to it, which is amazing, from Shall We Dance.
05. They All Laughed - Ginger Rogers (From Shall We Dance)Annie POV
They laughed at me wanting you
Said I was reaching for the moon
But oh, you came through
Now they'll have to change their tune
They all said we never could be happy
They laughed at us and how!
But ho, ho, ho!
Whos got the last laugh now?
Again, couldn't find video of the song, but
here's some of the dance
06. Let's Face the Music and Dance - Fred Astaire (From Follow the Fleet)Jeff/Annie POV, the night of the Tranny Dance
There may be trouble ahead
But while there's moonlight and music
And love and romance
Let's face the music and dance
Before the fiddlers have fled
Before they ask us to pay the bill
And while we still
Have the chance
Let's face the music and dance
07. Change Partners - Fred Astaire (From Carefree)Jeff POV
Must you dance every dance with the same fortunate man?
You have danced with him since the music began.
Won't you change partners and dance with me?
Must you dance quite so close with your lips touching his face?
Can't you see
I'm longing to be in his place?
Won't you change partners and dance with me?
Here's the scene from Carefree
08. I Used to Be Color Blind - Fred Astaire (From Carefree)Jeff POV
Strange
How a dreary world can suddenly change
To a world as bright as the evening star
Queer
What a difference when your vision is clear
And you see things as they really are
I used to be color-blind
But I met you and now I find
There's green in the grass
There's gold in the moon
There's blue in the skies
Here's the scene from Carefree
09. Tonight You Belong to Me - Gene AustinAnnie/Jeff POV, the night of the Tranny Dance
Though you belong to somebody else
Tonight you belong to me
Though we're apart
You're part of my heart
Tonight you belong to me.
10. The Girl - Instrumental (from The Circus)Yeah, it's an instrumental. But I always thought the music sounded like that epiphany of realizing you love what's right in front of you.
