I'm going to take the dive and get myself set up with instant message. It's gotten to the point that I need it more than I don't want it

Use Trillian. Pick whatever server you like. Trillian supports all of them and, if you're going to use it for business, you'll end up eventually having all of the servers. ICQ is owned by AOL, btw.
Use what you need to to talk to the people you need to talk to. The rest doesn't really matter. There's also Google Talk, btw. I wouldn't worry about what system you're using. Trillian gets rid of the ads from those that have them, and it's not like you're using AOL, Yahoo, MSN, etc when you're using their chat functions. Just a matter of whose EULA you can deal with.
at home i use aim, at the store i use trillian because thats what paul set up on that computer. i don't really use yahoo anymore because noone i know is on it anymore. i only got a yahoo account because my mother used to have it.

Yeah, I noticed that when I was reading their page. So I guess at some point I'll just set things up with AIM as well.
I also checked out Google Talk but I want to wait until the beta version is upgraded. That is unless it's just that damn good already.
