So I'm pretty much caught up on all my backlogged work. Just one bit of web updates to do but I'm waiting on some further info before I can move on. In light of that I decided to get to a bunch of computer stuff that's been sitting around.
The laptop is now formatted and setup with necessary programs. I also went out and picked up a cardbus for it. Now I just have to find some extra memory to boost it's piddly 128 MB of RAM.
If anyone out there has some extra memory lay'n around for an Inspiron 4000 with a P-III I can use it.
The router (provided by the ever effervescent
apollyonus) is hooked up and both systems are connected. Next thing to hook up should be the printer.
And after the System Crash of '06 that Made Dave Cry like a Little Girl I decided that backingup to CDs and then reinstalling those backups from CDs was getting a bit too out of hand. So I put in an order for an external hard drive. I talked to a few folks, looked at prices and read some reviews and decided to buy the Maxtor One Touch II with 200GB of space. It's got a backup and system restore program with it which will come in very handy. I could have built the damn thing really, but the total price for all the parts and programs was only a few dollars less then buying something already put together. Add to that when it came in this afternoon all I had to is install the drivers, programs and then plug the drive in. Now it's backing up everything in one fell swoop.
Next project will be to Frankenstein two old Dells that are identical. So I'll combine what I can and then set it up with Win2K since that's about all it can take. It'll be an e-mail and web surfing system for general use around the house.
So yeah, geek crap gallore.
