This is what I awoke to today:
Rain radars (
Live)
Forecast is for 30 - 40mm of rain to hit around noon. It seems to be moving fast and has just started heavy here at 10.45am. I've got to drive over to the North Shore for another film! eeek!!!
2pm edit:
Bridge and Ford flooded by over a metre between 11.30 - 2pm
Turns out I should have left camp before 11am. The stream has risen above the bridge and the water at the ford is nearly at the top of the posts (~1.25m above normal). It takes a few hours to drop before vehicle access is possible again. So I've missed my film. Oh well, at least we are not flooded out. I'm just waiting now to be able to go out to the outside world and find food etc...
rain swirls its way off to the SE fairly quickly
A few hours after the rain stops and most roads outside are dry and looking all innocent again in some fleeting sunshine. The local lake is up and board-walks and foot bridges are still submerged. But that's OK. They are calling this weather event the Tasman Tempest. Apparently 10 ppl were trapped by flood waters nearby. That's not counting us as we know the stream rises during downpours. We kept most of the drains clear. There was a confused Pukeko on the track as I left.
Apparently there was 65mm rain around lunchtime in west Auckland!!! no wonder it was crazy. Humidity starts to drop away over next few days as the sun returns and cooler air comes from the west. The evenings start to cool from Monday evening. Time to get warmer autumnal clothes.
