Went to see it, loved it :)

and clearly from the user reviews the US audience really just don't get the subtly of the humour. They seem to be expecting face value comedy like Pirates. But this is a pastiche of old b&w Brit comedies from old, which US audiences just have no reference to and don't understand. This film is not for them. I think the actors and the writers have done a great job on the whole with this film. Deliberately overacted and 'simple' plot. The comedy and enjoyment comes in the delivery and timing and obvious references to who is doing what. Even the music is a play on Bond music. I was the only one laughing out loud in the cinema. But then, I suspect I was the only Brit there.

I loved "The Boat that Rocked"/"Pirate Radio" the first time I saw that film too. I didn't laugh so much the second time I will admit cos I knew what to expect. I hope this isn't the case with Mortdecai. I REALLY want to see the out-takes for this film. You can see in at least 2 scenes between Depp and Gwyn that they are both working hard not to crack up laughing.

It is a wonderful throwaway light-hearted film which will be completely lost on some.
