Knee goes snap, crackle and pop...

Don't know what I did, was having a sore knee for the past couple of weeks. I do know I have arthritis in it, and that I had some form of ligament damage at some time in my past. But that is about it.

Today at work, we had a fire alarm go off so we had to evacuate the building and wait until all clear. Not much happened, we were finally allowed back in and our gather spot is about a block away, as we were all walking back not much happened. Not until I stepped into the street along with everyone else, took about 3 steps and SNAP, CRACKLE and POP. My knee completely gave out. And I mean gave out. I quickly turned around to get back to the curb and every single curse along with pain shoot through my leg and knee.

I barely made it back to the curb, grabbed onto the street pole, did a spin and landed on my ass and back. Pain was shooting through my leg, I couldn't breath, I couldn't move. I was so stressed, tears were coming to my eyes. I was lucky enough that I was with a group of people from my department and area. The rushed to my side and started making sure I didn't hit my head and worked on getting me to calm down. I have never had such pain in my life, it felt like someone smashed my knee. The called the paramedics and ambulance to take me to the hospital. The whole time, someone was holding my hand talking to me, another was rubbing my head to help me calm my breathing. It was weird, it was strange, it just doesn't happen the way you think it should. I am thankful to my coworkers who stopped and took their time to make sure I was okay, to calm me down, to keep me from going into shock.

It was really nice.

The only problem was, the guy holding my hand, making sure I was okay, is someone at my work that I think is 'Really attractive', yet straight. It also didn't help that the paramedics who first arrived on the scene was the firemen who were just their for the alarm 10 minutes before, all of them a dream onto himself. Here I was in pain, and unable to stop the tears welling into my eyes and seeing all of these hot men, helping me.

So, the ambulance finally showed up, I was finally able to get my breathing under control. Three of the firefighters helped me stand on one foot, while the brought the gernie to put me into the ambulance. The pain is just awful, yet now I have something more to fight for. I need to loose weight so that I never have this happen again. At least not the pain shooting through my leg.

At the hospital, they took an xray and didn't see no bone damage, but I have to make an appointment to meet with an orthopedic surgeon in about 7 to 10 days to make sure there is no ligament or other knee damage. Now that scares me, I am not really able to straighten my leg and when I got home after getting my meds (Viacodon), I got a charlie horse, almost went through the roof, the pain was so great. Matt had to take my foot and pull it back down so that it wasn't in the position it was in to get my leg to relax. I will be off of work for at least 2 days, ice packs and pain killers, trying to get my swelling down and learning to use crutches. I know this is a major wake up call for me to loose weight. I have plans, now I need to get them into motion. I don't want this happening again and I a scared that I have damage to my knee. Won't find out for awhile. so will be looking at the options I have to get it into shape.

At least the meds make me feel a bit good. If only the pain would subside more.
