Ruth! She's so interesting, because, like, on the one hand, Ruth is totally not that important. She is an analyst on secondment, and her boss thinks she's kind of nuts. But, on the other hand, she's so important, and it's because of love and loyalty and because she's all these things that spies aren't, and because she gets to have emotions, and everything that should make her weak, but instead makes her indispensable.
I think it makes sense that Harry goes to her, because a) well, at that point, it's either her or Sam and b) she's Ruth. With everyone else, (thinks Harry and Tom and the rest of them) you have to worry, but Ruth is safe, because she's not going to hurt her people.
(Were it not for spying/the Grid, Ruth would be a crazy cat lady. She kind of is a crazy cat lady. <3)

Sometimes I like to think about why and how it was Ruth came to be a spy. THERE'S NO REASON. She just... ended up one. LOVE IT. AND - that unimportant importance, yes THAT is why I ultimately love Ruth, I think. She fills that "meanwhile, this is also an OFFICE that FUNCTIONS" role, whether OFFICE is place where spies work and FUNCTIONS is protecting the country from evil. Come hell or high water, Ruth and Harry are there, defending the country from evil and all forms of tyranny, from here or abroad. And - just, yeah, SEASON 4. I feel like then I can properly revisit unimportant importance.
