Its that time of year again. Time to clean out, mend, throw away all of the things I have accumulated. Ever since I moved 2 years ago, I like to keep what I have to haul and carry from move to move to a minimum. This year, I felt it necessary to go through a little more thoroughly, probably because my work life is so disorganized, and likely to remain so for the time being, I thought I would put my organizational skills to good use at home.
So yesterday was a flurry of laundry, dishes, and picking up trash in my room, hauling carrying, straightening. Today there is still a fair amount of that to be done, but my energy is scattered and roaming.
I pulled out a tub of my old letters and postcards, intending to scan them into my computer as a backup for fires, thefts, water damage, etc. Only to find I only had 15G of free space on my computer. Why, you ask? Oh, that is mostly due to my strange and random MP3 collection. Over the last year and a half I have been luckily privy to friend's collections, cow orkers collections, rotating roommate's collections, downloads, myspace, etc. There are a lot of duplicates and badly tagged songs. So I put a hold on the correspondence scanning and decided to straighten out the lot of music I have. After 3 hours of resorting, and coming across a whole slew of folders I had accidentally copied twice, I am now up to 50GB of free space. Scary, really.
I wanted to give everything a thorough cleaning before I started ripping stuff out of boxes, mending, tossing, and donating, but this is starting to look like a month long project, what with the things I know I need to look at, and all the little things I know are waiting as surprises.
And I'm only on my computer so far.
Yee Gods, the amount of baggage I carry around. Seriously.
