Mmmmmm Computer Stuff!
So, I was at this Fan Faire thing in Atlanta a couple weekends ago and saw a few people with Dell XPS laptops that could run Everquest without breaking a sweat. I was pretty impressed how nice these things were.
In addition to my new motiviation to expand my skillset and start working on a new MMO game with a few colleagues from work, I decided I wanted to get one of these laptops so I could consolidate everything I need to be a happy computer geek on one system that I can take everywhere I want to go. My friend Bryan basically has the same goals as myself, we talked about it, and both ordered matching laptops last week. They are Dell XPS m170's configured pretty nice, but not over-the-top. They do have nVidia 7800 GTX video cards in them and 17" widescreens which make them very nice to work on. So anyways, the laptop came in today and I've been spending most of the day at work (while doing other things) loading software and everything I need on it. So far I've loaded, Visual Studio 6 (cause I have to support old apps), Visual Studio 2003 and Visual Studio 2005. I plan on using this for work too because I figure once I get everything setup so that I'm comfortable, if I have to go onsite at a clients, it would make my life that much easier to have my own laptop.
I'm really excited about it. Bryan is bringing his over tonight and I'm going to help him load his with stuff as well, then we'll probably start working on our MMOG or at least do some design on it.
Oh yeah, I ordered a Dell 20.1" Widescreen monitor for my dad too, but I'm going to hook it up tonight to see what its like. If its nice, I might have to hijack it!
