USDA Food Pyramid is Wrong
USDA Misses Crucial Distinctions

Notice that whole grains are different from bleached white bread, that plant oils are okay, vegetables can be eaten in large quantities, and that meat and eggs are essentially OPTIONAL or not recommended. Also, if calcium can come in the form of a supplement, certainly vegetable sources of calcium should be acceptable. And given that animal proteins in dairy interfere with calcium absorption, it should actually be shown as preferable.

Actually, I don't really like the emphasis on supplements, moderate drinking, or weight control, but I do like the emphasis on the science of eating a plant-based diet, and they draw important distinctions between types of food that the USDA ignores. Also, no need to count calories, carbs, or grams! Just eat the right balance of foods. Easy, sensible, scientific.
