My wife accuses me
of disliking numbers,
but it's not true, despite
their tendency to drown
in a murky swell of mind.
Who doesn't appreciate
seven hundred and seventy-seven
as it zigs and zags
through our mouths?
There are six billion,
seven hundred and
eighty-seven thousand
people in this world-
approximately.
I have to appreciate
a number able to
twist my brain into
a tremendous knot.
And then there's
one,
only one world-
this singular
globe of wonder,
hurling through space
at eighteen and a half
miles each second.
