I am STILL alive!

still alive... kinda moody, but I am always like that when I don't know what I want to do with myself. I'm already this old, and I am in a new place with no friends, no idea of where I am going to earn moneys, no one to curl up by the fire with. Great. I god#$*#&$ hate moving.

So yeah, the last two or three months have been busy as hell. I'm not kidding either; I had such huge school projects to work on in one class that I was going to go mad. You know you've been assigned too much work when your project team needs to meet... FIVE TIMES A WEEK. For five to six HOURS at a time. For ONE of THREE projects in ONE class.

So if I haven't kept up with anyone lately... uh, yeah. I've been in a hole. I haven't even gone to Aikido in months. Again. I completely flubbed my internship throughout this and nearly flunked it. I barely got the requisite hours done. GRAHHHHH. At least I did good enough to get a great grade... not that I need undergrad credits...

So what am I doing still in school? Mostly because I learned that Software Engineering at Queen's gives you almost no opportunities to really program anything. At least nothing significant. And it's all in Java. Bloody well pisses me off. This place is still the same, but at least I am PROGRAMMING for my classes. As opposed to doing 'school work'. I took a small class on PHP, HTML, and CSS, but I am now taking Grad Courses... basically looking to fill in the gaps in what I think I need to learn, at least in subjects. I finished a massive User Interfaces course (which is essential for any and all application development), and I am going to be looking to take some courses on more advanced computer software architecture, a game-design class called Virtual Worlds, and hopefully an advanced web design systems and applications class. If I can get myself doing advanced web development and actually building more complex applications, I will be pretty damn happy...

Over the summer, I am going to continue my internship and learn more by volunteering at the same IT dept. in the college here. Maybe I can learn more technical stuff too... the other thing I am going to do (besides my typical play-by-post RPGing online) is I am going to take a hack at building a game engine in SDL. I have another game (SuperTux) with SDL/OpenGL open-source to look at, but the combination is so complicated it hurts my head to try and follow. It also uses a library I don't have... I have a 3d open-source RTS to spy on too in OpenGL (Glest), but that's far beyond my purview.
I am going to probably build this very crappily and rudamentarily, but I hope somewhere along the line I will learn all the more complex aspects of C++ (like complex pointer manipulation, extending classes, and other things) and learn not just HOW to do certain tasks and architectures, but what are the BETTER ways of doing it. Maybe I can make something worth something... but I probably will need to find someone who knows the subject a ~lot~ better than me.

Anyway.

Best moment of the year? Showing the undergrad Anime club AKAGI, eps 1-4. ¬_¬ We were only going to watch the first two, but the club pretty much needed to see the next stuff after that!
