If San Francisco is where they send the meteorologists who have no forecasting talent - "Today it'll be 20°C with clouds in the morning and sun all afternoon, just like every other day for the past 68 years" - the inland north must be where they send the ones who also wanted to be comedians. "It'll be -10° overnight followed by freezing rain, then 13° with an evening thunderstorm. You know, typical fare for mid-December."
Today we are definitely experiencing Weather. Alan went to the grocery store this morning and called me on his way there to say that the world was ice. He said it took him over half an hour to walk each way, compared to the usual 10 minutes. I put some salt on our sidewalks right away. This would have been around 11 a.m. At 2:00, I saw that some other people on the street were doing some scraping, so I went out again to do the same. There was a fair coating of ice, though easily smashable with the end of the shovel. I probably collected up enough crushed ice to make about 50 snowcones. By 7:00, when we went out for dinner, the world had been utterly transformed to misty, warm, and wet. Then we walked over to Lea's at 9 - in the rain - and came back three hours later in basically a heat wave. Like actual "jacket off during the walk, and this long-sleeved shirt is almost too much" heat. And now we're about to have a thunderstorm!
So... frigid, icy, sleeting, misting, raining, baking, and storming - all in one day.
Tomorrow the comedians are calling for a bunch more precipitation, coupled with a long temperature slide that will take us back to about where we started. They're joking, right?
