The new Dr Who and Rolf Harris

Wonder
of wonders there was actually some good tv tonight. New DR Who, new series so where looking good on that one - whoever the script writer is he's got a sense of humour. Following that there was a documentary about Rolf Harris and the Portrait of the Queen he'd just done - extremely well, done conveyed wonderfully that they were both just two people (Rolf and the Queen) that are famous for doing jobs but are at heart "good people", oh yeah - and it was actually done in a very friendly / interesting way.

For those of you who didn't know there's a a new Dr Who - yup they've already replaced Paul McGann( edited to add "make that Christopher Eccleston - see what I mean about how long he had the job - I think Paul McGann did the film" ), because he didn't want to get type casted. Ok says I, then why did he take the most notoriously type casting role there is. That's the bad news, as he actually was good at it in a quirky way.

In comes David Tennant who starts off by immediately breaking all the rules, which is excellent especially as he's in the middle of his 'I'm all confused by who I am because I've just regenerated" stage that all the Doctors get to give them a chance to make the roll there own. Also known as the I can legitimately get into fights stage. He wanders through the episode wearing pajamas and a dressing gown in a very Arthur Dent - ish fashion that he carries of perfectly.

So much quirky humour in the episode though I loved it so once again Dr who sets of to a promising start - we'll see how it goes. From the remote controlled killer Christmass tree to the scene where he stylishly kills an alien with a satsuma, the best line of the show has to be where the American President wants to take charge of the situation and the British PM replies "he not my boss and he's not turning this into a war". So hearts the british public's desire for Tony Blair to actually grow a pair of balls of his own, instead of borrowing from a man who couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery, never mind a country.

So on the whole where of to a good start tv wise - at least i'll have something to watch besides Stargate and Atlantis.
