Dear Worldbuilder

Let me thank you right up front for whatever you are going to write. Although you've seen the tags on my sign-up, I know that most people like more than that to go on, so I hope this letter will prove helpful. I like all these fandoms equally; so I've just put them in alphabetical order.

If you're just looking for my general likes and dislikes, you'll find them at the end.

FANDOMS:

DC's Legends of Tomorrow:Leonard Snart, Nate Heywood, Ray Palmer, Mick Rory, Gideon, Zari Tomaz | Zari 1.0. Worldbuilding: Having the means to bring back loved ones, Living on a Timeship, Having the means to undo past mistakes

I like to see the interaction between the crew as a whole. I enjoy Mick with any/all the crew; and I love the bromance between Ray and Nate. As for Gideon: she knows more than she's letting on-about everyone and everything, past, present, and future. And Snart: what if he did come back? I'm less interested here in how he'd return as in reactions and consequences. Feel free to include any of the other crew members, though if you use Sara/Ava (and I applaud their relationship), please do so only as a background pairing.

I prefer gen, but don't feel that you have to ignore canon. (Nothing more than PG13, though, please.) DNW soulmates, A/B/O, mpreg, wingfic, genderswap, kidfic. I prefer not to have main characters die in the story; but references to canonical deaths are okay. DNW second person fic. Any other characters you want to include would be fine.

I love what they've done with the Legends in the last couple of years. Each episode leaves me chortling with joy. On the other hand, the first season bugged the hell out of me: there was so much promise; but too much of the Hawks and Vandal Savage, who weren't my cup of tea. Also, they killed off Leonard Snart. So ... what if he came back? I'm less interested here in how he'd return as in reactions and consequences. A lot has happened on board ship in the meantime.

Since then, we've seen a lot of really interesting new characters: Amaya, Nate, Zari, Charlie, Constantine: love 'em all. So anyone you want to include is fine, always bearing in mind that I'd prefer a gen focus (i.e. with any canon pairings strictly in the background). What's daily life like on board when there's no mission on? For that matter, how does it get fitted in when they do have an emergency? Several crew members have canonically succumbed to the temptations of time travel: who else has past regrets and lost loves? What else does Gideon know but hasn't told?

The Flash (TV 2014): Fan fiction. Characters: Barry Allen, Leonard Snart, Hartley Rathaway, David Singh, Mick Rory, Original Character(s), Any or No Characters. Worldbuilding: the Rogues, Metahumans, Central City Police Department, background & backstory

A series with a lot of unfulfilled potential. What was it like working for S.T.A.R. Labs before the explosion? What does the average cop think of superheroes? What is life like for metahumans who don't run afoul of the law? Were the Rogues ever formed (or will they be)?

I don't like anything more than PG13: explicit sexual detail is definitely a DNW for me. I prefer not to have characters die in the story; but references to canonical deaths are okay. DNW AUs or crossovers. DNW first- or second-person fic. If you include both Hartley and Singh, please don't have them involved with one another. That's comics canon, but not in the TV show.
Central City Police Department: We know something about Barry's juggling act as CSI and superhero; but I'm sure there's more to be told. Then there's Singh's perspective-on Barry as a CCPD employee, on the existence of superheroes in Central City, and on his job as police captain. If you want to use original characters, what about the varying reactions of police officers to having a superhero team around? What are the challenges faced in the investigation of criminal activity committed by metahumans? We've seen Barry at work (never enough!), but he's obviously not the only CSI working for the CCPD.

Metahumans: Apart from Team Flash, most of the metas we've seen have been antagonists. However, there are apparently over a thousand people who were affected by the Particle Acclerator explosion. What's life like for them?

The Rogues: In the comic, the Rogues are basically a group of career criminals who want to pull off successful robberies and get away with the loot. Although most of the characters have been introduced in the TV show, it was individually. We were teased with references to "rogues" in Season One; but there's no evidence that an actual team ever formed. Did it? Will it? And, if so, who's in the group? I like snarky banter, and ethical dilemmas about the "Rogues' Code" that Flash proposed to Captain Cold.

Forever Knight:Fan fiction. Characters: Natalie Lambert, Feliks Twist, Javier Vachon, Screed. Worldbuilding: Vampire Physiology, background and backstory, Vachon's crew, carouches.

Given the focus on Nick as protagonist, secondary characters in FK tend to get short-changed. Although the series often references Natalie's attempts to find an acceptable blood substitute for Nick, we don't actually see much of her research. Vachon and his friends have centuries of history that were never touched on. For Screed, in particular, I'd be interested in seeing more about carouches. Or tell me more about Feliks Twist: a vampire who likes to garden.

If you want to include other characters from the series, that's fine. I like all three seasons equally. However, feel free to ignore "Last Knight" if you want. I've asked for fan fiction; however, I'd be equally happy with in-universe meta if you're writing about vampire physiology.

I prefer gen, and don't want anything more than PG-13: explicit sexual detail is definitely a DNW for me. I prefer not to have canon characters die in the story; but references to canonical deaths are okay. DNW second-person fic, also first-person except for epistolary.
Vampire physiology: Although the series often references Natalie's attempts to find an acceptable blood substitute for Nick, we don't actually see much of her research into his condition except in "The Fix". I'd love to see more of this-either a story about her research into some aspect of vampirism, or perhaps a look at her notes. Possible topics: vision, fangs, immortality, rapid healing, the process of becoming a vampire (or anything else that appeals).

Backgrounds and backstory: Given the focus on Nick as protagonist, secondary characters in FK tend to get short-changed. Tell me more about Feliks Twist. A vampire who likes to garden (albeit under grow lights) sounds fascinating; but we only saw him once. Alternatively, tell me something about Natalie's childhood or medical training. Which brings us to...

Vachon's crew: Although Season 3 did include a few flashbacks focusing on Vachon and his friends, there are centuries of their history that were never touched on. How did the "crew" get together? Why did they stick together-and why did they eventually break up shortly before "Black Buddha"? If you want, feel free to create new members of the group, or include characters who were mentioned in the Season 3 bible but never appeared on screen. If you prefer not to deal with the crew together, it's okay to focus only on the backstory of a specific member of the crew.

Carouches: For Screed, in particular, I'd be interested in seeing more about carouches-how they differ from regular vampires and/or more about vampire prejudice towards them (and why).

Prehistoric Park:Fan fiction. Characters: Suzanne McNabb, Bob Arthur, Nigel Marven. Worldbuilding: Zoo Management, New Time Periods, Cambrian Era, Flying Animals.

Ideally, something along the lines of a new episode-well, a single time trip and/or a bit back at the park. Your choice of time period, but I'd prefer something as-yet-unvisited.

Canon-compliant gen, please. DNW any pairing involving the requested characters. I prefer not to have canon characters die in the story; but references to canonical deaths are okay. DNW first- or second-person fic. DNW screenplay or transcription formats.
Dinosaurs! Or mammoths, trilobites, or what have you. Obviously, what I'd really like is the resurrection of the series and six more episodes. Realistically, you're writing me fan fiction, so I couldn't expect more than a single time trip and/or a bit back at the park.

New Time Periods: Your choice of time period, of course, if you do that; but, if you can manage it, I would prefer an era that is as-yet-unvisited. Not the near past: my interest counts "past" in the tens of millions of years. We've seen the Cretaceous more than once: perhaps the Jurassic? Or the early Cenozoic somewhere other than South America? Or perhaps a trip far back, if they decide to build an aquarium, go back to the Cambrian Era, and dive for trilobites and the like. (That last would definitely pose logistical problems for the time travel team.)

Zoo Management: If you prefer to stick to the present day, then problems keeping/feeding the extra creatures that Nigel always brings back unannounced. In particular-

Flying Animals: I'm not so interested in the giant pterosaurs of the end of the Mesozoic (though I'm sure they're what Nigel would prefer to catch) as I am in the earlier types. Or early birds, for that matter. How do they keep them contained? Do they build them an aviary?

GENERAL POINTS:

  • I love stories that explore more deeply-through backstory, or by elaborating the setting/history/culture or exploring people's motivations and personal interactions.

  • I prefer gen, unless otherwise specified. However, I don't care for anything more than PG-13: explicit sexual detail is definitely a DNW for me. (When I encounter it in stories, I skim over it.) For pairings, I prefer character exploration.

  • I love casefic; and, more generally, I like stories that are canon-compliant. The general exception to this is ignoring canonical character death if you want. (There may be other specific exceptions.)

  • I'm okay with violence if necessary to the story; but not gore for the sake of gore. On the whole, I prefer not to have characters die in the story; but references to canonical deaths are okay. (I'm fine with having original characters murdered in casefic, and that sort of thing.)

  • I enjoy comedy-being able to recognize the ridiculous when it pops up; also wit and wordplay. Having said that, I totally leave it up to you whether you write a serious or comic story-or a serious story with comic interludes.

  • No second person fic, please. First person is okay, especially for book canons that were written that way by the author.
