Due to events in game canon, Envy will be resurrected as a human being. His physical appearance will be pretty much the same (hooray for not having to change my icon base!), but there ARE some key differences.
- The absence of the Ouroboros tattoo on the outside of his left thigh. Also the absence of the red lines and contact points on his shoulders and back.
- The presence of a flesh-colored contact point on the center of his forehead, like Selim Bradly (Pride) bears on his forehead when he's reborn. There's nothing special about it, but it's probably symbolic of his former existence as a Homunculus. Envy normally hides it behind a plain black headband.
- His eyes are still violet, but the pupils are no longer catlike slits. They're round, like a normal human's pupils.
- His complexion is no longer deathly pale. Or won't be, once he gets out in the sun more. He'll gain a more healthy color, though it's likely he's apt to burn very easily.
- Envy will start wearing his hair in a long, loose braid, because it's easier to maintain. Possibly copying Ed's hairstyle...?
- He's eventually going to change his name to Embry, though he'll still answer to Envy. He'll just be annoyed, that's all. On a side note, I'm still going to leave all his character tags as "Envy," to avoid any confusion.
His abilities are also going to be affected due to his becoming human.
- If you kill him, that's it. Game Over. No extra lives. He no longer has a Philosopher's Stone core, so he has no extra lives to spare.
- No more instant regeneration. Again, due to the loss of his Philosopher's Stone. If he gets injured, his body will recover at the normal rate for a human being.
- No more shapeshifting powers. For now. Technically, the Homunculi's abilities are tied to their souls, not their bodies, given the evidence in the manga. Case in point: King Bradley (Wrath) has no Philosopher's Stone core, yet he can still manipulate his unique ability, the Ultimate Eye. And when Greed jumps bodies into Ling, his Ultimate Shield works fine, even with a human body. And given the fact that Selim (Pride) could regain his powers later on means that the same could happen to Envy... In fact, I'm counting on it...
- Like Al, Envy will have a somewhat compromised immune system, though not nearly as severe as Al's condition. He was put in a relatively healthy human body, at least? Still, he's never had to deal with disease as a Homunculus, and with this new body, he hasn't had time to build up an immune system. Expect him to succumb to plenty of colds at first (and then bitch about them).
- He is now able to use alchemy. Normally, Homunculi can't use alchemy (probably because their unique abilities are just a special, specific type of alchemy). Obviously, he'll need someone to teach him the basics, and he's not exactly the best student, so his progress will be slow at first. His specialty will be with plants and vegetable matter, and he can transmute these materials more easily than others. He may or may not possess the ability to perform clap alchemy, like Ed and Al, due to his encounter with the Truth.
Now, here's the fun part. The psychological affects of suddenly becoming human. This is where the possibly triggering or upsetting content comes in.
- Post-traumatic Stress Disorder - The majority of this stems from the brutal battle against Colonel Mustang, in which Envy was burned repeatedly to death. Suffice it to say, he's developed an intense fear of open flames (pyrophobia?), and will not approach them willingly. He will also do anything to avoid coming into contact with Mustang, and it's possible that Envy could experience a panic attack if exposed to either of these stimuli (or at the prospect of being exposed to those stimuli).
- Gender Identity Disorder - Despite the fact that everyone refers to Envy using male pronouns, he's never thought of himself as strictly male or female. He's a shapechanger, so he can be either one, or both, or neither. In fact, in his default human form, he lacks a biological sex, and therefore has no external genitalia. Now he's suddenly thrust into a male body (smack dab in the middle of puberty, at that!) and has to deal with all the physiological changes that entails (why hello there, awkward boners!). Of course, he'd feel just as distressed if he were stuck in a female body, too. The fact is that he's stuck, no matter what. The loss of his shapechanging abilities is probably the worst part about being a human being for him, aside from the whole mortality thing, but he seems to have an easier time coping with that than with being stuck in only one form, without the ability to choose.
- Minor Clinical Depression - While Envy won't be chronically depressed, he's definitely going to succumb to depressive moods during his first few months of adjusting to living as a human being. He's got good reason to be depressed: no special powers, no immortality, no friends or family or support network of any kind. He's got no job skills, has no means of supporting himself, and he can't even perform the most mundane of domestic tasks, such as cooking or cleaning. All in all, he's convinced that being a human sucks majorly! He's going to be extremely irritable and snappy, anxious, insecure, and just plain moody. Once he begins becoming more self-reliant, his mood will improve, as will his self-esteem.
If any of the above situations are too squicky or triggering, please let me know! Anything of a graphic or sensitive nature will be labeled as such, and placed behind cuts and possibly f-locks. Also, should any comment threads with Envy suddenly enter uncomfortable territory for you, I will be more than happy to tone it down or simply end the thread as-is. I will also keep a list of those who would rather not interact with Envy while he's adjusting to his new life as a human being..
