Rating: PG
Genre: Fiction, Humor,
Word Count: approx 800
Dear Gail,
I am writing to make amends for the wrongs I have done you in the past. I realize that this has probably been a long time to wait for an apology but I had to think carefully about what I needed to make amends for.
First I suppose I should talk about Harry. I’m sure you think I stole him from you and for that I apologize, but really, you know as well as I do that he was unhappy and your marriage had been over years ago. Okay, so maybe we should have told you that he was sleeping with me, but honestly, we thought you’d have figured that out. I mean, hello, he wasn’t sleeping with you any more, right?
Now I know you think you were lied to when you asked Harry about it and he said no, but hell, what man wouldn’t lie, right? And the fact that I continued to be your friend and the fact that I gave you that old stereo of mine (since Harry had bought me a new one), the swamp cooler, that croquet set, plus a whole bunch of my old clothes did not mean I felt guilty or anything, even though I know you told Harry that you thought that’s what it was about. I was just being your friend, like I always have.
Anyway, I’m sorry the stereo didn’t work. Or the swamp cooler. It was working fine when we took it out of the wall a few years ago, so I can’t imagine what went wrong. I know you had to pay to have those things taken to the dump, but believe me; I was only trying to give you a few little extras since I know you don’t make a lot of money and Harry’s buying things for me now, so it only seemed fair.
And as far as the $500 that you gave me a few years back when I offered to buy fencing for both of us, yes, I know that you feel ripped off because I never gave you what you thought I was going to, and I’m sorry about that, but really, you should have realized that the material was going to cost more than I said it would. Prices always go up in the spring. Maybe the next time we both need the same kind of thing and you give me the cash to shop for you we can square up on that, okay?
I suppose you might be feeling a little miffed about the car. Well, I know you thought of it as your car, but you know that Harry did have it registered in his name so it only made sense that he would give it to me when you two broke up. BTW, it handles really well even though I’m not too thrilled with the color. Blue is kind of boring, you know? But it’s a big help with transporting the kids.
Now speaking of the kids I’m sure you can understand why they would rather be here than at your house. They really do need to spend more quality time with their Dad. Besides, with the new Xbox he bought them, plus those two new laptops, they can have their own space and not have to share that one ancient desk-top computer you have, right?
So given that they are spending more time here now I’m sure you can understand why we are asking for child support. No hard feelings, right? You’ll be served the paperwork pretty soon I would imagine, but as your friend I thought I should just give you a heads-up.
Well, so this is it: my letter of apology for those things that you might think were wrongly done to you. But please remember that no one was trying to deliberately hurt you in any of this. Harry felt it was time to move on and like they say, the one constant in life is change, right?
Really, maybe this isn’t even necessary, since I guess you felt you had things to apologize for too. We’re both cleaning up our own sides of the street, right? But I’ll tell you Gail, your little reconciliation gift is really appreciated. How did you know I love fudge? It was a little dry, but it’s the thought that counts, so no prob.
I should sign off now. My stomach is kind of hurting (maybe I ate all that fudge too fast-lol!) And actually I’m feeling a little funny…sort of dizzy and sdffg ;; p]]f
Wow, stomach really hurt s ingg ;ll…
Anyway I accept your apology if that’s what you meant by that note in the box of fudge that said, “SORRY”
