Today was my last day of high school.
Ever.
SoooOOOooo strange 0.o.
I'm looking forward to having more free time to relax (and to finally catch up on all my favorite sites online!), and I'm especially looking forward to starting classes at MICA in the Fall, but I can't help but feel a bit sad. ...And sort of lonely.
This morning was the senior breakfast and graduation rehearsal. Seniors didn't have to show up until 8:00 and no one took attendance when they did. Yearbooks were being passed around like wild fire from one end of the room to another throughout the entire procedings. Then, around 11, they gave us our carnations (thank you so much for yours, Sean, btw!), handed out graduation tickets, and kicked us out.
Like, seriously.
The administrators pretty much said that if you weren't around for an important purpose, than you were to get off of school property, pronto.
That sentiment, coupled with my recent reading of the new Catalyst (school paper), has caused much of my disquiet: The new paper is filled mostly with stories written by underclassemen, and not a single letter to the editor was from the class of '07. It's natural and right for this to happen, that the other classes step up and take control, but still, I can't help but feel like I and my world are being replaced. It wasn't until today that I realized that now that I'm graduating, Carver isn't my school anymore. The school will continue to grow and change without me. Sure, I can visit the place from time to time but I will only be on the outside looking in. From now on, Carver belongs to someone else. And in a couple of years, there will be no students left who will personally remember me.
Like I said, I know that all of this is natural, for the others to move forward. I guess I just feel strange because I haven't moved forward. As much as I'm excited about MICA, it still isn't my school, yet. Not really. I love it there, but until I'm an official student, living there and taking classes, I can't help but feel a little insecure.
Switching subjects a bit, though, I also went to see Pirates 3, today, after the morning's events. Cait, Rachel, and I lugged our sorry bums up to the Towson Commons in the 88 degree heat and humidity (though with a few stops a long the way) and met the Nudibranches - AKA Eric and Kayleigh - around the theater. We randomly ran into Jon Joffe along the way. Once inside the commons theater we (minus Jon Joffe) sat around on a bench while waiting for theater 4 to open, when Rasta came out of the theater directly facing us (showing Spiderman 3, which I've also seen recently), saw us, sighed, and sumultaneously turned in the opposite direction XD. For those who don't know, Rasta is an alumnus of my school who, during our shared time at Carver, often seemed to pop out of nowhere, often running away from someone. He's a black kid with dreads - occasionally covered by a rastafarian cap - who posesses a high and awesomely squeaky voice...and who apparently works at the Towson AMC XDDD. As Cait likes to say, the moment was "priceless" ^_^.
The movie was quite good, too! Oddly dark as compared to the other two. In some ways, I think it was unnecessarily dark: I mean, in the past two movies the main characters always survive the film's adventures with barely a scratch, but the way the story's world is presented has allowed me to suspend my disbelief. Then in this one, people are dying left and right! They even kill off this little kid! When I was watching it I was like, "Come on, hero: Save the kid. I know you're not going to kill the kid. Yeah, see they're not going to - WTF? They killed the kid? They did not just kill that kid!"
The jump between movies 1-2 and the third is akin to what it would be like if one were to read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, skip books 2-5, and move immediately to book six. Both stories would have great humor, and the latter would be a stronger technique-wise, but the stakes would be alarmingly higher in the second read.
Despite this harsh shift, however, the third film is great fun and extremely exciting! The character development is strong and entertaining (the whole "Being Jack Sparrow" inner thoughts part really weirded me out at first, though). The sword play isn't nearly as cool as the blacksmith shop and mill wheel scenes in the past movies, but whatev.
Oh, and I totally called that ending! Make sure you stay until after the credits, as with the other Pirates movies. This time the added scene is actually quite substantial.
Well, so ends my first considerable update in quite awhile! I have pictures from about 5 or 6 events that I'm actively working on blogging about! These include my senior show, prom, and my birthday (June 8th :P) wishlist. Yay for newfound free time! Like I said, I'm actively working on these so I should have at least one picture post up tomorrow, probably a couple if I don't end up sleeping all day :P.
Once all that's done, I've got A LOT of artwork to upload to dA, and a lot of work to view, there (like, 3000 deviations, and I plan on seeing them all!).
Then once that's done, I'll get around to replying to journals, etc.
And maybe go outside for some fresh air 0.0.
