After a year spent dredging my soul the internets, I've come to the conclusion that SGA is still the fandom TO END ALL FANDOMS. Just nothing comes anywhere close to the amazingly organized and talented scope of SGA fen. SGA fandom, how it will spoil you. In the past couple of weeks, I've been lucky to come across some blissful downright mind-blowingly good fic.
SGA (Mckay/Sheppard)
Judas Doesn't Answer by
auburnnothenna O'Neill and Woolsey arrive in Atlantis along with SG-1. Shortly thereafter, Sheppard and McKay find themselves in a race to catch a murderer.
This fic was just toe-curlingly awesome for me. It reads like a mystery with puzzle pieces and motives laid out for everyone and it just keeps getting infinitely more layered as you go on. ♥ to infinity. *Fans inner LFN-fangirl self.*
Also, it's worth noting that this fic takes place in a sort of AU post-season 4 where Elizabeth has returned and is back in charge of Atlantis. If slash is not your thing, most of this can pretty much be read as gen.

17.5: a love story by
helenish He had never in his life thought that another guy had a pretty mouth; he wasn’t going to start now.
"I’m so sorry," Aurin said, sagging a little. She had peered into Rodney’s eyes and mouth, his ears. "I had no idea that this would happen. I-we all generally require extensive preparation and meditation for the machines to work-"
"He doesn’t know us," John said. "He’s never seen us before; sorry doesn’t cut it."
"I-Colonel Sheppard, it was not my intention to cause him any harm, and Dr. McKay did say he was very knowledgeable about such devices and declined my instruction."
"Oh, he did, did he," John said.
"Yes," Aurin said, visibly distressed now. "I would not lie-"
"No, I-yes, I know," John said. "sorry, I-"
"He didn’t mean it," Ronon said, stepping sideways in front of John and elbowing him gently aside. "Can you fix it?"
"I-it will very likely wear off," Aurin said. "Occasionally a child or an idiot wanders into the huts, and then the effect usually does not take permanently."
"When?" John said.
"A short time-a season, or perhaps half a year?"
Rodney messes with a device that de-ages him back to a twenty-year-old, causing some middling angst for Sheppard. For me, the best part of the fic came after Rodney inevitably turns back to his old self. Some interesting John characterization here.
Vid rec:
Four Years (SGA, Mckay/Sheppard)
Four years of John loving Rodney. Rodney is a) oblivious, b) deliberately ignorant, or c) not as smart as he likes to think he is. Mckay/Sheppard. John POV.
If you're a John/Rodney shipper you can't watch this vid and not squee. This vid really helped jumpstart my love and excitement for SGA again, which had unfortunately suffered from a year-long hiatus.
I am so glad to be back to enjoying this fandom. SGA=Happy Place.
