hi!  not dead!  and here's my year (stolen from kat of course)!

1. What did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before?
pierced sensitive bits.  moved to boston.  started law school.  sold my car.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
made none.  will probably make none.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
no.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
mom's cat (and my old cat) bear, even though i wasn't there at the time.

5. What countries did you visit?
none unfortunately - 2005 may be the gap year.

6. What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005?
a professional blowdryer is all i can think of.  oh - more sex.

7. What date from 2005 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
august 4 - trial.  august 23 - resolution.  december 12 - final verdict.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
dropping 2 sizes without knowing it.  not throwing my back out.

9. What was your biggest failure?
lack of self-control.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
thankfully no, but what a mess that was.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
ipod.  brown boots.  clit ring.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
i like the ghetto investigators on animal cops detroit.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
can i second rusalkat here?  "would basically the entire u.s. government like to stand up for this one?"

14. Where did most of your money go?
rent, and evidently gas bills, and probably clothing (but i have an excuse!).

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
nawf cackalacka.  boston.  the great charlottesville eating tour.

16. What song will always remind you of 2005?
anything from the ambulance ltd album, or anything from the doves.  oh - and "stuck in a rottweiler!!!"

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? happier, definitely.

ii. thinner or fatter? thinner. hooray 40lb backpack and 1.5 mile walks!

iii. richer or poorer? richer. despite being a full-time student again.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
exercising, saving money, reading.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
clinging.

20. How did you spend Christmas?
with mom and brother, per usual.

21. Who did you spend the most time on the phone with?
i think probably mom.  how sweet.

22. Did you fall in love in 2005?
um.  i might have.

23. How many one-night stands?
good god, i actually have to answer this as 1.  i've blown my own mind.

24. What was your favorite TV program?
house!  house house house!  and everwood for being fantastically bad, and commander-in-chief for the same reason (when i can actually catch it).  and the daily show, but that's a given.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
no.  i don't think i hate anyone at all.

26. What was the best book you read?
the federal rules of civil procedure.  no?  ok, how about coetzee's disgrace, or delillo's the body artist?

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
ambulance ltd, doves (a rediscovery), nickel creek.

28. What did you want and get?
this is hard to answer.

29. What did you want and not get?
i'm not going to tell you.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
this wasn't really a movie-watching year.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
turned 24 - went to cilantro in gtown with friends, drank entirely too many mojitos and ended up having soup to start and finish my meal, and got generally more inebriated as the night went on...

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
a proper ending to the prom.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2005?
the way it always is - if i like it and it looks good and fits and feels good, i wear it.  generally "classic" i guess, what i own doesn't usually go in or out of style.

34. What kept you sane?
the internet?  might have done more harm than good.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
obama baracks my world!  hah!  no really, i don't know.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
so many.  plamegate.  katrina.  the creationists.  bush in general and particular.

37. Who did you miss?
definitely kat!  and seeing my mom on a somewhat regular basis.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
i'm not going to jinx things.  but i made a million new friends at harvard.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005:
the best laid plans.

this is ridiculous.  i have a different song in my head at any particular moment in a day.  my whole goddamn life is set to a soundtrack.
