residency
The first residency meeting went well. For Friday, I have to bring:
One link to a piece of (new media) feminist artwork that I like
One paragraph on the work I wish to create a (video, new media, VJ, tweaking, streaming, interactive, interventionist are all ok) Sort of a game plan or a mandate
One paragraph about previous events concerning feminism in the DTES or in marginalized women's communities (take back the night, valentine's day march, et cetera)
the group has one person who thinks contemporary new media work is self indulgent academic wallpaper and only wants to make a document of the DTES at this place in time, then me and one other person who are there to be paid artists and to produce new work, a student of first nations and women's issues who worked at the kalayan centre, and one blogger. the blogger annoyed me because she said that the vancouver aquarium is a good thing (ugh) The aquarium is evil.
I'm pretty amazed that so many employed people made it into the residency when there are so many starving artists. I would have only hired on the broke assed people for this thing, not people making big solid incomes. I think this project has to approach issues of space, safety, accessibility, and it has to have a legacy exhibit because the VAG is not giving us enough space and time.
anyways come to FUSE on the 28th and see my work. I may be able to get you guestlist if we are friends in real life.
