I got a Christmas card from Allie the other day!
Even though it was something that was promised, it was still a very pleasant surprise to open my mailbox and have not just something that was not bills or junk mail, but a bona-fide CHRISTMAS CARD. FROM ALLIE. I'd almost forgotten she was sending one. My heart leaped. I did the Snoopy-Brand Happy Dance. Literally. It absolutely made my day.
Christmas was pretty darn good. We went down to Tom's parents' after I got off work Christmas Eve and stayed the night. The munchkin got a lot of new shinies, wrapped in shinies that made shiny noises (read: he was absolutely covered in ribbons and bows to play with while Mommy unwrapped everything). I ended up being the big winner of the year on the annual scratch-offs (I won $14 and a free ticket! w00t!), I got some nice new clothes (I'm absolutely in love with the super-soft candy apple red scarf/hat/hobo gloves set Tom's mom got me from Express, yo, and this awesome emerald-green zip-up hoodie), burned a tit on the oil from the fondue pot, and gorged myself until I could gorge myself no more. Didn't end up falling asleep until 2:30ish, then was up again around 7, though I did end up taking a nap shortly afterwards out of boredom, since I was the only one awake. When I got up like an hour later, Tom's dad was making breakfast, and Devin announced that Natalie, his "newish" girlfriend (they've been together for like 6 months, I think, but this was the first we'd seen of her) was on her way and would be joining us for breakfast. She was adorable! And nice! And didn't hit him for being retarded! I loved her! I hope they work out. After the two of them took off, the rest of us watched Iron Man and The Dark Knight, then we packed up and came home.
I managed to talk my way out of working the day after Christmas, and the day after that, as well, since my Mom and sisters were staying in Gurnee for the weekend. The little one and I met up with them those two days and shopped lots and hung lots and ate lots. It rocked socks. My family seemed very taken with the pumpkin, which made me very happy. Not that I really expected them to shun him, but just with the whole situation, I wasn't really sure what attitude to expect and was somewhat wary. My sisters couldn't get enough of him, and my Mom insisted on buying every baby thing she saw and telling him that Mimi was gonna make sure he was the happiest baby ever.
Back at work, I've been busy tearing down all the Christmas cards and setting up Valentine's Day (yes, already...) in Hallmark. Only a couple more weeks of that front-end crap (though I'm sure I'll be asked to fill in where I can for a little while, and probably still be stuck taking care of Hallmark, too), then I'm off to the pharmacy! Wish me luck, should definitely be an experience for sure...
Love!
