Okay, so I'm now in Pittsburgh and it is so so so wonderful. However, before I left for Pittsburgh I was able to squeeze in one last adventure!
Grateful Fest in Garretsville, Ohio: 3 days and nights of some SERIOUS free spirit action.
Home sweet tent.
The surrounding area.
The main stage - Wavy Gravy in the yellow hat.
My favorite person of the entire weekend was the one in the tye dye with the pony tail. He must have been going on 70 but he still grooved like the younger crowd all night, every night.
Sitting in the shade while One Under played.
The main stage area early in the day - not too many people were awake before noon.
A fluffy puppy!
The swimming quarry - best part of Nelson Ledges Park.
The Island in the middle of the quarry that is fun to swim out to and chill on.
The jumping cliffs were so much fun, I even convinced myself to flip off of it and I didn't injure myself in the process.
The people really came out of the trees for Keller.
Another shot of some people we camped near in the crowd.
Dark Star! They played three amazing shows during the Fest and I can't wait to see them again.
Donna Jean from GD singing with Dark Star!! This was the highlight of every night because Donna has still got it, and sounds even better than she did before. She sang every night, all night. It was so wonderful.
I really can not explain how incredible this weekend was. What an experience. Everyone there was truly in the spirit of the original Dead shows. The Merry Pranksters had a strong presence, and it was great to see them still doing what they have been doing for 30 years now. I loved sitting in the campsite tending to the fire and listening to the music going on all the time down at the stages while every five minutes someone came by and you'd hear what they were selling. Or just grooving in the back of the crowd and smoking bowls with some of the greatest people I have ever met...ahh - I can't wait for next year!
