Had my meeting with the agency on Monday about actually doing something with the New Year's project. In short, it went very well.
I can't give too many details about where we're going but I can say Joe was enthusiastic about getting something started and came up with so many ideas for promoting it and finding advertisers and sponsors. He said he can certainly see it creating an ancillary stream of income at the least. But in the right situation, the right person/company might see it as something they want to own and that's when the offer gets made. And it the offer is good then let them have it.
He also has a functioning server on site on which we will be able to setup the web site. He's also able to put together a MySQL system in place to move the data onto the server to be used more effectively with the web site. In addition, he knows video, audio, and graphics people. But mostly, he's already done the type of work necessary to find advertisers looking to back things.
So I'm probably going into a partnership, rather than just hiring him for two reasons. First, I don't have the money to just hire someone to do that type of work. Second, as a partner he will be more adamant about seeing this project get off the ground.
To top it off, he said I had a very good PowerPoint demonstration. Yea, I learned you never put bullet points on your slides and use a lot of interesting pictures while you're delivering your patter. Seven years of bad slide presentations at CMU taught me quite a bit. Who thinks that people want to hear a presenter read their slides - all 50 to 100 of them...
nice things,
it's new years again,
happy happy joy joy
