I had what I thought was a major problem with my laptop last night. Everything went dead, including the light on the power cord leading into the machine. Initially I thought it was a power failure in the adapter or in the computer that was going to require major surgery.
I made an appointment the following morning at the Apple store to have it checked out. Turns out, it was only in need of the firmware update. I hadn't done that yet, as I had eight programs open with various data and didn't want to restart the machine at that point.
I remember telling the "genius" that I did not want to update my iTunes 10. It works great as a video library, and I was somewhat unimpressed with iTunes 11. Seeing as I do not sync my iPhone or iPad to the laptop, it really doesn't matter which version of iTunes I maintain on the laptop.
I get the computer home, and start up iTunes, and guess what! Up pops iTunes 11, the program I distinctly did not want.
I then begin attempting to get iTunes 10 functioning again. I got it running, but it's constantly giving me a 42408 error and telling me it can't sync with my iPad please fix it. Talk about thoroughly annoying.
I spend about an hour trying to fix it and looking things up for possible solutions. All to no avail.
I call tech support to see if they have a solution to my problem. The rep does not know how to fix it and says he has to turn this over to a higher tech and they need to link into my computer and there will be a nominal charge for this. I tell him, "I did not create the problem. An Apple genius screwed this up. I see no reason why I should be charged to fix it".
The rep says that's the only way they can fix it and I must be charged for this. I said there's no way I should be charged for something and Apple employee messed up. He then told me I needed to take it back to the Apple genius.
I hung up after saying, "thanks for nothing!"
I have an appointment tomorrow morning, but it will be difficult listening to iTunes constantly tell me it can't sync with my iPad, I need to fix it. They better damn well fix my computer tomorrow morning.
I hate when people don't listen to instructions.
