I signed up for the hollywood video MVP program thing. It costs ten bucks a month for the first three months and then fifteen after that, but basically you get to rent unlimited movies in the month but you can only have three out at a time. I've been wanting to do it for awhile so i could rent all the samurai films and series of shows i've been wanting to watch. Heather and I rented Saved, Harold and Maude and Samurai Reincarnation. The last of the films kicked alot of ass, i might say. It stars Sonny Chiba many of you know him at Hotori Hanzo from Kill Bill and Tomisaburo Wakayama of Lone wolf and cub fame (great movies might i add). Several Japanese icons appear in the film Miyamoto Musashi, Kirimaru Iga(pretty sure he was a real person) and i think his name was Hozoin. Chiba plays Yagyu Jubei who is a pretty common character in samurai/ninja/anime flicks, i think correct me if i'm wrong (Matt). The movie starts out after the slaughtering of Christians and the banning of the religion in Japan. One of the survivors denounces his faith in god and summons upon the devil to help him exact his revenge. All of the japanese icons die or are killed in some one way or another, and they all die with regrets, which the Christian guy brings them back so they can finish them. Musashi wanted to duel Lord Yagyu (Jubei's pop), Kirimaru wants revenge because of the koga ninja wipped out his family and Hozoin never felt the touch of a women due to his monk training. So basicly the main bad guy who was a christian uses black magic and the hair of the slaughtered christians as a whip. I loved the berayal of him, and he kisses the samurai to bring them back so he's kinda gay too, lol. But over all it was a fucking awesome movie and i think i'll be renting Samurai Fiction in the next couple of days (thanks to matts recomendation) and a few others like Ran and Yojimbo.
*Edit*
While i was going through the extras i watched the stills thing and they had this in there...
I found that about a year ago when i was loking for the Zatoichi and Seven Samurai dolls. The damn thing runs about $200 so if anyone would like to pick one up for me that would be the ultimate gift or well the seven samurai and the lone wolf and cub set would rock too.
$1,095.00 and that store only has two sets left...
