Well a serious answer would then be: It probably doesn't. People just have different image of themselves in their mind's eye and thus when they see their own picture the mind's image and actual doesn't match up and thus your mind uses denial as a defense and makes up the whole "adding weight" factor to cameras. *shrug* That's my guess

i notice it with other people, and i have no reason to care if they look small or big

ok then maybe it's because camera's take information in a 3D setting and tries to put it into a 2D setting. The lack of depth perception in the photo probably adds the "extra" weight.

that's what I thought after I wrote it..... but it's interesting that we never notice people getting taller.... but maybe we're less apt to look at that
