[It's not much, admittedly, but John is a former soldier. After a hard battle, it's better to come back to people who welcome you, rather than ignore your efforts. Especially if it's a war the people might not see as their own. That and he hasn't had much intel on what went on out there. But given some of the names on that draft list, he suspects it isn't all well. That and he's curious about those Shift Incompatibilities.
As for John, he'll have a quiet drink at Good Spirits later. Nothing alcoholic, just some hot and black coffee. Later for his patrol, he ends up taking it on foot through town. He's still got a lot on his mind. He fell in love with a beautiful redhead and things got real serious during the recent experimet. He hadn't even had a chance to talk to her about it before she was just... gone. It has him thinking a lot about his choices both here and at home. Not the least of which is his recent glimpse into his own future, with Shayera and the son they're supposed to have. The woman he's supposed to be with, despite being in a relationship with Vixen.
He'll be a little distracted during his on foot patrol, but not too hard to catch the attention of. Besides, with that uniform? He kind of sticks out.]
