Late for the speed-skating meet'n'greet? [ the jibe is gentlish -- after all, you can't be too crass with a stranger. buffy is also looking for ice-cream and so she smiles coolly by deep-freeze in the shop. ]

[Damn, and just as he spotted what he was going to pick up. He's not so concerned with other people's opinions that he won't pick up the ice cream, but it's not exactly something he'd like to advertise. He does have an image to maintain.]

Speed-skating? [You lost him right off the bat there.]

You know -- with all the spandex.

[ she grabs a pint of peanut butter fudge crunch. ]

[He fetches his own ice cream. Don't judge him, woman.]

It my uniform. And trust me, it's too cold to be wearing spandex out there.

[Yeah, that just gets you a frown as he tucks it under an arm.]

I preferred it in the summer. All the same, it's not much different than being back in Detroit. [And it's even colder in space.]

Detroit? Wow. At least you haven't had to adapt too much, weather-wise. I've heard that Detroit is practically Canada for cold.

Close enough, but the people aren't as friendly.

[On the other hand, Luceti is plenty friendly. Maybe this IS Canada.]

Well, unlike the people from the great white north I'm assuming that Detroitorians don't get to keep polar bears as pets. Those things look hella cuddly. [ or, you know, not. it's a joke. ]

The city has enough problems without bears running around.

John Stewart. [A pause as he considers her name.] You're the one mentioned by Silverberg, right?

Oh? [ she smiles on instinct. it isn't actually that often that her name's recognized from that no matter how much she teased albert about it. ] Y-yeah, sure. That'd be me. No other Buffys around.

That's an impressive resume, especially against such a formidable opponent.

Well, us barmaids run into all kinds of nasty situations on the job. You never know when you're going to have to bust a few bad-guy heads.
