[Secret identity? Alter ego? Who needs those? Certainly not the Green Lantern, as he patrols the village and the forest from the skies. He'll come down for a landing if he sees anyone in distress, signs of wrongdoing, or anything just outright odd . Sadly he won't be stalking you from the shadows and scaring you shitless Batman style, so you'll ( Read more... )

[he hears the question, lying half-asleep in the mountains somewhere-- so the answer comes a bit off-handedly]

You should talk to Ted.

He's putting together a new one, for the shelter project.

Shelter project?

Mm. You must have arrived after the first announcement [he needs to keep better track of these things-- it's the first time he's seen a New Feather cycle]

Yeah, there's a project on hold right now to build shelters in the forest for incoming "New Feathers". Ted had scouts sent out to put together a more accurate map as a part of that project. You'll have to ask him how it's coming along.

My name is Ginko, by the way. I can't remember if we've spoken.

Sounds like a worthwhile endeavor.

We haven't, I only arrived last week. The name is John Stewart.

Mm. I thought so, too.

Only a week, eh? Doesn't sound like it's taken you long to adjust. Any particular reason you were looking for a map?

This sort of situation isn't exactly new, aside from the wings.

For patrol reasons. It's a small village, but it doesn't hurt to be prepared.

You...patrol? I suppose that's just a role you've assigned yourself, ehh?

Were you some kind of soldier in your world?

It was a role I was appointed to. This isn't the sector I'm supposed to be watching, but that's no reason to give up my duties.

Used to be with the Marines. I'm with the Green Lantern Corps now. An intergalactic police force spread throughout various sectors to uphold order and provide protection and assistance to those who need it. Or "space cop" tends to work as well.

Hmm. [Smirks, a little ruefully] I'm a little ignorant, I'm afraid. "Marines" means nothing to me...Unless you're a pirate from Sanji's world. Or "intergalactic". But I've learned a bit about space-civilization since I've come here-- have you colonized the space between the stars as well?

Not a pirate. At least I hope not. Marines are like infantrymen, but deployed on both land and sea as their own separate division.

Mankind hasn't quite reached the stars yet, at least not beyond our own solar system. [Although the League operates dozen of ships capable of interstellar travel...] The Green Lantern Corp is composed of members of thousands of different alien species. I was chosen by the Guardians because of the qualities they saw in me.

"Alien species"? I presume you mean other sentient beings-- as human as many of the non-human captives here?

Qualities? Were you born with talents that set you apart? [He knows bending, that would make sense. Though honestly, anything would, at this point]

Right. Although this village seems to be predominantly human. [It makes you wonder about the Malnosso, doesn't it?]

[He laughs, just a bit. Talking about himself in this manner isn't something he's used to.] No, I'm just an ordinary guy. Supposedly I was chosen for my honest, courage, and indomitable will. At least that's what they tell me.

Indomitable, ehh? [he grins a bit] That must come in handy.

A Green Lantern's power comes directly from his own willpower. So yes, it's very useful.

A "Green Lantern"? [he leans closer to the book] Do you have tools in your world that can convert will into actual power, like that?

[voice] greenlongjohns March 15 2010, 16:46:32 UTC
You might say that. [He's not just going to say what it is, though. Not on the journals at least.] But they don't exactly give them out to anyone.
