before i begin my annual rant against my retarded college football team, i must begin with one of the funniest quotes i've heard in a while.
"it's a great night for the aarp, the american association of retired people." -al michaels, commenting on doug flutie and vinny testaverde entering the fourth quarter of abc's last mnf game
ok. so we didn't make the rose bowl this year. what a surprise. with a 7-4 record, the last time we had a five-loss season was 1984. do you understand that? 1984. we were penn state's only loss. i mean, we were national champions in 1998. we had the heisman winner who is now an oakland raiders franchise player (charles woodson). we have the winningest record in ncaa football. we have 31 consecutive bowl game appearances.
SO WHAT FREAKIN' HAPPENED?
i am so appalled at halftime. i'm sorry. i love lloyd carr. don't get me wrong. but when espn is flashing pictures of the players riding bulls at a fucking petting zoo and lloyd riding horses in the san antonio desert, we have problems. what did i say last year? and i quote:
"not that i don't love you and your wiseass attitude, but there has to be some discipline. in the game and during the training week prior. no more excessive fun in the sun just because those michigan boys only see snow this time of year. you're a great coach, but you need to keep them under better control when they see a round yellow ball in the sky called the sun."
jesus. help me out here. 14-14 at halftime against a team that isn't even ranked. have hart run the ball and chad henne stop getting sacked. throw to proven clutch players like breaston and avant. that's the game plan. i've taken over.
you better hope i don't update crying.
omfg. and may i say before i go into angry mode, i obviously pick my teams like my men. losers. yeesh.
now...
TALK ABOUT UNFAIR. NOT ONLY IS LLOYD HITTING HIMSELF WITH A STUPID STICK, HE'S GOT TO GO. THE FIRST THREE-BOWL LOSING STREAK SINCE 1982-1984?! AND THE FIRST FIVE-LOSS SEASON SINCE 1984 AND FIRST FAILURE TO WIN EIGHT GAMES SINCE 1986. DISGRACEFUL. AND MATTINGHAM, WHAT WAS UP WITH THAT? YOUR FAILURE TO CLOSE AND CLINCH THE GAME ONLY MADE THE GLARINGLY ATROCIOUS ERRORS BY THE OFFICIALS POINTLESS AND USELESS. JASON AVANT, YOUR FUMBLE CAUSED US TO LOSE THE MOMENTUM WE DESPERATELY NEEDED. FIRST RULE OF CATCHING A BALL, PROTECT PROTECT PROTECT! CHAD HENNE, BEING COOL UNDER PRESSURE IS FINE, BUT SHOW SOME PASSION FOR THE GAME!
AS FOR YOUR SOUTHERN CLUELESS REFS FROM THE SUN CONFERENCE, I DO MEAN TO OFFEND YOUR CONFERENCE WHEN YOU FAIL TO PUT A PLAY UNDER REVIEW AT CRUCIAL MOMENTS AND MAKE MICHIGAN WAS NOT ONLY ONE, BUT TWO TIMEOUTS SO THAT YOU CAN REVIEW A FREAKIN' PLAY. AND WHERE WERE YOU ON THAT PASS INTERFERENCE CALL NEAR THE ENDZONE? BOWMAN CAUGHT THE LEFT ARM OF MATTINGHAM. INSTEAD ALL YOU COULD DO WAS USE A SOUTHERN DRAWL TO MAKE FLAGRANT ERRORS. IF I WERE MASTERCARD, YOU WOULD NOT BE PAID AND YOU WOULD NEVER EVER BE INVITED BACK. props to mike tirico for being so angry with the officials. rightfully so.
this was embarassing. 32-28. against an unranked team. who we were supposed to battle to show who was really the national champions in 1998. pitiful. i'm so ashamed to call the wolverines my team. a team that can't close the deal do not deserve to be the winningest program in college football.
i'm going to go cry again. and hope that someone can pull through next year. and i have to wait another year...again
