So Speaks Grover Norquist jealous keeper of the Republican Party's soul.

Is Grover Norquist a jealous god? Well it turns his pledge serves the needs of big money special interests, so no. Grover Norquist is not God. He is perhaps a handmaiden serving the special interests of big money. But he does not hold the soul of the Republican Party. Like the Democratic Party the Soul of the Republican Party is held by big money interests.
Personally I think Grover Norquist might be a sincere gentleman grasping onto one simple thing. (Ex. "Read My lips, no new taxes."- G. Bush #41*) And perhaps if we can hold onto this one simple thing then perhaps we can save ourselves. I understand this and sympathize with this. I went through this phase myself, but I outgrew it.
As adults we must realize that things are complicated, and while we do not compromise our principals we compromise our policies. We work for the best of all possible worlds, but we compromise on the best we can do now. Perhaps the worst possible fate would be one view unrestricted by the restraint of faithful opposition.
