Battle for the Soul of the Republican Party: The Death of Moderation

Mar 13, 2012 13:58

Republicans often accused of being 'Moderates' are usually so called Business Conservatives who don't want the government to regulate business. Republicans accused of being 'Religious Fanatics' are usually the so called Religious Conservatives who want the government to regulate people .  Both groups are laughed at as not being Conservative at all from  'Just Plain Nuts'  Republicans of the  "Don't tread on me" Libertarians who want the government to not regulate business or people.  The only value that seems to be shared by  the three groups is the Mantra:  "No Compromise."  Any Doubt why the Extended Republican Primary Season has not united the party, but only revealed it's deep seated divides?

Meanwhile the actual Moderates, people who believe in the more difficult and productive path of reasonable regulation on business and people to protect the rights of people seem to have no home in the Republican Party.

Who Wins?    It seems obvious the winner is the Democratic Party but alas no.  The Democratic Party might win office, but Pro Business interests control the Democratic party as well and Moderation has been defined as pro business.  So the actual Winner is Big Business, and the tiny sliver of people who own Big Business.

Who Looses?    We all do.

Coming Up:  The Radical Moderates

2012, moderation, big business
