A Sound?
Some Light!
No! It is me! Geoff!
Sup?
Someone (Cough Cough Kelsey) finally got me to resume posting in this thing, so you all have her to thank/curse for my return to active updating of this blag. I’ve been meaning to actually update this thing for a while now, but I did need a bit of motivation. Pictures of Lolcats will be kept to a bare minimum, although cute puppies might surface.
I’m not going to recap the whole year that I was “gone” from the internet. Two semesters ago I went to Berlin, which was a pretty amazing experience, despite the homesickness and issues with, you know, actually fitting in with the rest of my program-mates. If you want a fuller account, either ask me, or go to the blog that I kept while I was there (
iwanttoseecastles.blogspot.com). I tried to be pretty honest about everything, so have fun reading it if you want to (even though the most frequent readers/commenters were my great aunt and grandmother - I swear I told you people about it…)
Cutting to the chase-
So for the 4th, last weekend, I went to Becky’s house in Baltimore County (Becky, for those of you not in the know, is my girlfriend since this February). Becky lives right on the Chesapeake, so we got to go out on a boat and listen to her dad curse out the police. He really hates those police boats, apparently enough to yell at them from the dock at their house if he gets drunk enough. No, I didn’t get to experience this first hand. I also got to experience Becky’s 15 year old sister, Steph, who happens to be the most annoying person I have met in a long, long time. Always shouts, says stupid shit only for attention; general high school bullshit. Fun fact: Microsoft word wants to correct “Steph” to “Staph” - take that as you will.
So there were piles of food: in particular, piles of Maryland steamed crabs, which were delicious as a matter of fact. However, I did have about 4 or 5 people telling me the proper way to eat a crab all at the same time. Not that I really knew exactly what I was doing, but I think I was a bit ahead of the class since I’m from Massachusetts. Lobsters’ve got to count for something, yeah?
We didn’t get to set off the $60 of fireworks we bought (2 for 1, too! Yay, Freedom!), because it rained like we should have expected Noah to show up. I’ll be going back some weekend before I go back to Mass so we can set all these off (and to see Becky, duh).
Fun Fact: Becky also has a pool, because the area of the bay that they’re at is not only sort of gross because of Baltimore, but there are snakes living in it. Fuck that.
Balancing out the unfortunate rain and the unfortunate sister were the friendly pets (except for one cat) Pictures will be added later. There is Tiger, the aforementioned unfriendly cat, who is probably all pissed off at people because he weighs 35 pounds, and has people standing around him all the time going “Look at how fucking fat that cat is.” I stand guilty as charged.
There’s also Midnight, the depressive, attention hungry cat. He’ll walk around your feet, looking at you longingly, and meowing when you make any sort of noise towards him. He also loves to walk across people’s laps, rather than just sitting down.
Midnight stepped on my balls. Let’s leave it at that.
There’s Archimedes the Betta, who is a fish, and a lively one at that. I took care of him once. Uh, that’s about it for him. He’s a fish.
Finally we have Precious the Pug. Precious likes to eat food, especially people food. She’ll either put her paws up on your leg - or even better - she’ll jump up onto the couch that you’re sitting on (or into your lap), and stare at you with he big bug eyes and her goofy pug smile. Then the snuffling begins.
Let me tell you, it’s pretty damn hard to keep a straight face - let alone eat - when you have a heavily breathing goggle-eyed goblin staring directly at your face (and the wall, and the floor, and that guy over there - man, pugs are hideously adorable).
So this last weekend was great, as you might have gathered from all this.
Other things that I am doing right now:
Preparing for the GRE - oh god
Working at the University info desk/setting up rooms - boredom abounds. No, wait. Boredom doesn’t do anything.
Volunteering every Monday at the Holocaust Museum Library - Varies, but it’s good for the resume, and people there are quite nice.
Growing increasingly agitated with the leasing office for the apartment I am living in next year. WHY HAVEN’T THEY CALLED ME BACK YET RARARARR?
Dreading next year - Thesis oh god.
Trying to have a much fun as possible with friends before we disperse to the 4 winds - word.
That's all for now. You stay classy, Internet.
