Feeling Crappy
So the following Friday after they only gave me 24 hours to take the job, they canceled the job. Yup called and tracked me down at work at 10am. A week after offering it to me they apparently reassessed and canceled the position. Thom says they apparently hired 10 RNs to their float pool and with their budget so screwed up they probably couldn't take me on too.
I actually got a letter from the director of Palliative and Rehab services at the Miller apologizing for the timing of letting me go, that it had nothing to do as a reflection on myself, it wasn't easy letting go an experienced RN and they hope I apply for future positions. I never thought it had a reflection on me but I was still disappointed for the same reasons I wanted to take the job.
I'm applying to different places but I don't really want to go. I like the floors I work on, I just hate that neurosurg has no senior staff. After I had a cry I went to see Marilyn (manager) to update her and she had a huge smile when I walked through her door "I'm so sorry but I'm just so happy!", well definitely still had my job. Lucky me now since this has happened, I've been in charge of ortho for the first time (27 bed unit) and in special care (4 bed, 2 nurse, acute pt unit).
Thom's hours have been shit. He's on his 3rd pay period, first one he did good, second he didn't get half and now we're wondering if this one will be the same. April can go either way. They reassessed end of Nov and just extended who they already had til Jan. Fucking Nape are idiots, saying how great this is. Yea, for those already in a position, what about the casuals?
Well despite this we booked Vegas. We have the time off, already had the money saved to pay for it now we're saving for money to actually spend down there. I was at work when Thom booked so it's under my Hulan name meaning I can't change it until April. Oh well, avoid the hassle for a little longer. :P
Went home for a week and it was grand. :) Pretty quiet, just chilled with the fam and the kitties. :) Not going to be able to see them til at least Feb since I'm working xmas and hopefully Thom and I will do something for New Years.
Thom got a great report from Dr. Ann Williams. She's said his output is back to normal, pills are doing great and echo looked good. When I asked she said her oldest of 8 pts is 58, only on pills, never had surgery and is still working. :) I'm knocking on every piece of wood I cross, haha sounds dirty. I had to pull teeth on specifics for what Thom can't do and one was not lift over 30lbs, cut back on caffiene/alcohol, go for a walk now and then, only needs to lose a few pounds, cut back on carbs. Nothing drastic but still things we're bad at!
Also at this time we had a huge snowfall so after seeing Ann we bought a massive snow blower. :D It cost a mint but hopefully it'll do the job. A lot less stress than shoveling for 3 hours.
Okie, now to grab some breakfast and haul all the decorations up. At least the tree is put together and with a lot less hassle then last year. :s It goes together really weird.
Gonna finish decorating then run down to Costco and Dollarama. Sucks when you have no money but shopping makes you feel better. :S
