Hope everyone likes the icons....I'm beginning to wonder if maybe having my own graphics journal is a good idea after all. I don't find that quite as many people responded to my last icon post (the first over there). Of course its quite possible that the last batch sucked elephant balls too, but who knows. I simply like to know who's looking at them and who's snagging them so I know its worth it to keep posting. And to the ones who always respond, THANK YOU! This doesn't apply to you all, I promise. :)
So if you haven't commented before on the stuff I post, please take a second or two to do so, just to let me know you saw. You can say they suck, its okay, it won't drive me to the tower.....well, at least not today anyway.....
This is the first year I've entered NaNoWriMo (for those who aren't familiar it means National Novel Writing Month, where people sign up and write a 50,000 word novel in one month). I'm pretty excited about it. I started off slow, but right now, I'm at about 18,000 words. I'll have to give a more accurate count for the front of my journal. But its taking up a lot of my time, so I decided to not enter any contests for a bit. I'll still do award banners for the ones I agreed to do, so that's not big deal, really.
I did a count of my iconawards (cuz I was curious and bored as hell) and I went over the 100 mark after entering contests on and off for 15 weeks now. Wow.....I had no clue. I broke it down, according to the banners I've gotten so far, to be like 29 first places, 28 second places, 20 third places, 17 Mod's Choices, and 4 other (best cropping, most original, etc). Now I know that doesn't add up to 100 but there are about 4 icons out there that haven't gotten the award banners yet. Anyway...hitting the 100 mark for me is HUGE, when I entered these things to compare myself to others in hopes of improving. I've definitely learned a lot. It shocking to see the different icon/graphic styles out there and especially when those making them are in different age groups. Its also amazing to see how talented the younger makers (i'm talking like between 13 and 18) are. Their creations are complicated looking, using lots of textures, multiple images, etc.... While me....I stick with rather simplistic icons, using coloring techniques and perhaps a texture and some text. I think I like my way better, for the simple fact is that the image you're using tends to come through more. I don't care for icons that are so shaded, so washed out that you don't know what the original image was to begin with. But again, that's just me. Many many people win icontests with those methods, so it must be rather popular.
Anyway......
Enough rambling, I need to go back to the story. Not sure whether or not I'll post an excerpt here, its really all just a big jumble of words right now with no direction whatsoever. I guess the idea of NaNoWriMo is to just get the heart of the story down, the rest can be fixed later. I know I can do that if I can resist the urge to go back and edit, which is my style. *sigh*
Oh and has everyone discovered the private message thingy, yet?? Neat! You just go to your message and click on new message in the left hand corner. Its about time, isn't it? Its nice to have so you don't have to contact someone by commenting on one of the old messages or something. Finally, they listened....
