I rather enjoy my occupation of the coldest room in my house, the one in the basement that will occasionally drop to 56°F at night. I am the type who would rather be cold and snuggle under blankets than melt in the swelter. And yet, I have recently found a strange pleasure in using the space heater to turn my room into a balmy little hothouse. On a ( Read more... )

I'm not a big slasher either. I'm generally a het shipper, because in truth, most of the time I ship canon, and canon is mostly het.

I agree so much with the entitlement complex.

What really bugged me about the Kirk/Spock thing is that they presented it on the argument that films should have more sexual diversity and this would be great for that. Well I agree that films should have more sexual diversity, but why the hell does it have to be Kirk and Spock? If they'd written their petition on the grounds that they'd just like to see ANY gay characters or couples in the next Trek movie, their argument would have some ground. But their insistence that it HAS TO BE KIRK AND SPOCK, just makes them sound like slash fangirls using gay rights as a cover to forward their shipping. And that irritates me a whole lot, because gay rights is not a joke okay. And another thing that irritates me about their insistence on Kirk/Spock happening in the Trek reboot is that in order for it to happen, the writers would have to break up a healthy interracial relationship (Spock/Uhura). Interracial couples need more media exposure as well, so wtf fandom.

And don't even get me started on the HP fandom. DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED.

You've described exactly the problem I see in the situation. I was afraid that my wording might imply that I do not think media should increase the presence of non-heterosexual characters. I do. It is the way these people express their dissatisfaction that bugs me. I think the haughtily offended set really are quite convinced that their way is the way to solve the marginalization of LBGTQ identities in media. It's just so smugly moralistic.

Hmmm... I am actually very curious now to get you started on Harry Potter
