Show Your Tender Heart by Leaving the Green Leaves Untouched

I think it is pretty fair to assume that all titles for my journal entries are meaningless from here on out.

Today I had some good old-fashioned family fun. With my brother as company, I finally went to see Star Trek. All the good things everyone keeps saying about it are absolutely true. It is an incredible movie. I am a person who has never seen a single episode of any of the TV series. I have never seen any of the movies. I went into this movie knowing only what I could glean from references made on other TV shows (mostly mocking), and I utterly loved it.

If I were a green space babe I would totally let this sexy, non-Shatner Kirk seduce me. Spock, Uhura, Sulu, Bones, Chekhov, Scottie were all AWESOME. If only future!Spock could warn Scottie about how fat he is going to get in the future. Yes, I am familiar enough with Star Trek to know that in the original show Scottie gets really fat. But I highly recommend this movie. It is fantastic even if you know nothing about Star Trek.

To complete the wholesome sister-brother bonding experience, after the movie we went to the liquor store across the street from the theater. I got a bottle of Captain Morgan because I have a little Captain in me ^_~ My brother got Irish whiskey and gave me a shot of it. It tasted kind of like the inside of a wood barrel but in a good way.

In other news, I have been reading The Host this week. Yep, it's that other book by the Twilight lady. I suppose some people might be embarrassed to admit to not only reading, but LOVING, a novel by Stephanie Meyer. But not me. It would be very silly considering that I am not even ashamed to admit I like Twilight. And seriously, there are so many much more shameful aspects to my life. The Host is a lot better than Twilight, though, in my opinion. The protagonist is more interesting and endearing than Bella.

While investigating online fandom for this book, I was delighted to find that a good many "fan casts" for a theoretical movie version of the book have Ian Somerhalder (Boone from the 1st season of Lost) as the character Ian. Now I can't unsee it, nor do I want to. He is absolutely perfect. I would be wary of seeing any movie version with someone else in the role. Not that I think they will make a movie of it. When someone has a cash cow like Twilight, why milk the other cow in the barn. I might need a Host icon. Hmm...

I posted the introduction to my Hetalia fanfic on ff.net and got more positive response than I expected. Now I am worried I won't live up to their expectations. I am really pathetic. Not only am I scared by failure, I am also scared by success.

In conclusion:

Star Trek= Highly Recommended
The Host= Highly Recommended
Captain Morgan= Highly Recommended
