Ok, so a couple weeks ago i was reading an article in People Magazine on Rosario Dawson (who played Gail in Sin City--you know the one with all the fishnets and the big gun and with all the fetishes and such) and anyway, i thought she was awesome. But ok, in the article they said that she was going to be staring in the film version of Rent, and when i first read that i was like "wait a second, they're doing a film version of Rent?" and i got really scared because i was like, "They're going to ruin it!!!" So i was talking to my mom about it, and i said "Well, the only way that they could make it really good is if they kept it as a musical, and had a whole bunch of the original cast (from the musical) in the movie." So a couple minutes ago (since i stayed home from school today because i feel really really sick and gross today--i threw up this morning, at like 4:00 in the morning...so that wasn't fun at all) I was organizing my music (because my brother was playing with it and when i came onto the computer i realized that half--or most--of my songs were missing...so i re-added all the music all over again to fill in the blanks and whatnot) but anyway, i'm getting sidetracked. Ok, so i was listening to Rent because i was fixing all of the songs that would have repeats---i'm such a neat freak when it comes to my music it's crazy..., and i was like "Hmm, i should look on IMDB and see what they're doing with the Rent movie." So i went to imdb.com and i looked up Rent and i noticed that it's coming out this year, so i was like "whoa! cool!" and so i clicked on it and as soon as i saw the cast lineup i SCREEEAAAMMED with excitement, and my brother was like "What?! What’s wrong!?" and i'm like "ADAM PASCAL, ANTHONY RAPP, TAYE DIGGS, ANNNNNNND IDINA MENZEL ARE ALL IN THE MOVIE!!!!!!!" and then he called me a freak. But did you know that Adam Pascal was in SLC Punk? I didn't know that! He played Eddie, hm, crazy. Ok, so maybe i'm the only one out of my friends who is this excited to hear this news, but i'm so happy!! I'm still a bit worried because it's my favorite musical (modern musical), or--ok, ONE of my favorite musicals, and they can really mess this up. But i'm HOPING that with those original cast members that they at least do a good job. Rosario Dawson really has big shoes to fill with the role of Mimi--because Daphne Ruben-Vega is so amazing, and has such a distinct voice that it's, i dont know. She does have that great look for the role---much more than Melanie C does from the Spice Girls, ugh. I HATE that all these pop stars invaded Rent and ruined it. Blah. ORIGINAL CAST!!! WOO!!!!! Ok, so i'm a Rent Junkie, what? LETS JUST HOPE IT'S GOOD!!!! *phew* exhale.
Ok, so "What is Rent?" you ask? Here's a little discription that IMDB had that i thought was quite lovely and pretty much summed it up, lol:
Based on Pucinni's La Boheme, Rent tells the story of one year in the life of friends living the Bohemian life in modern day East Village New York. Among the group are our narrator: nerdy, love struck, filmmaker Mark; the object of his affection and his former lover, Maureen; Maureen's Harvard educated, public interest lawyer, lesbian lover Joanne; Mark's roommate HIV+ former junkie, Roger; Roger's lover the HIV+, drug addicted, S&M dancer, Mimi; their former roommate HIV+ computer genius Tom Collins; Collins' HIV+ drag queen, street musician, lover Angel; and Benjamin Coffin III--a former member of the group who married money and has since become their landlord and the opposite of everything they stand for. Shows how much changes or doesn't change in the 525,600 minutes that make up a year.
::sigh:: ...this made my day.
