A writing vacation

Survived yet another trip out to the Black Hills with the family this weekend. It was a typical Kokesh family vacation - my sister whined about everything humanly possible, my mom was bored by nature, my dad once again wandered too close to the edge of cliff in the Badlands and my mom screamed at him some more, and I fell down a hole in front of bunch of other tourists while we were in Spearfish Canyon. It always has to be me.

That was just yesterday too. But the point is I survived for another day at my internship! Yay!

Started work on my John-and-Teyla Thing-a-Thon fic this weekend. I'm about 300 words in and hopefully I'll break 1,000 tonight. I haven't gotten to look much at what everyone else has been doing since I've been out of town and I just realized I don't have the comm on my f-list. *is sheepish*

I'll need a quick beta once I am finished. Anyone interested?

In other writing news, I've hit 9,500 on my original fic. I wrote about 2,000 just yesterday in the car ride home. I was way short of my 5,000 word goal last week, but I did a lot of editing last week so I probably re-wrote around 5,000 words. My goal is still 15,000 words by the weekend but I don't think that's going to happen with the Thing-a-Thon fic and July 4th coming up.

I've discovered that I can write much more and faster when I skip the so-called 'boring' parts and get right to the scene I have in my head for that chapter. I'm still having consistency issues with my main female lead but I figure since it's the first draft, I'll be OK for now. The main male lead decided he wanted a motorcycle and I gave it to him because I can't refuse that boy anything.

Silly characters...
