CRIES FOREVER BECAUSE OF THIS BOOK.

All of my ~big feelings~ on everything and everyone because UGH. I totally would have missed everything with Nico's feelings (well--maybe not everything, but I would have just figured I was reading into things) up until he was forced to confront his feelings. BUT this means so much to me, as a queer kid who started figuring out what she was feeling in middle school. I remember isolating myself the way Nico did, the fear and the pain and the self-hatred. UGH I just wanted to hug him and thank Rick Riordan profusely at the same time. Thank God for Jason, and I hope that every queer kid who's realizing that they're queer in middle school reads this book and feels better.

BUT. Leo/Calypso! I didn't think it would happen but then it did and it was wonderful. I loved Calypso so much and it was so nice to see her again ( ... )

I can't wait to read an interview or a blog post about RSquared's decision to write Nico as queer; I want to pick his brain about it RIGHT NOW.

And, last thing, I really have a feeling that at the end of the next book Jason and Percy are going to changes places--again--in a way.

I agree with this! I got that vibe from when Annabeth started talking about going to New Rome with him. Percy's still a praetor there anyway. Unlike Jason, he has renounced it. If anything, the camps will have a lot easier communication between them once the war's over. I demand an epilogue.

I just wonder if before the second series was planned out if Nico was going to be queer and no one ever know in canon like Dumbledore and it's been planned since the beginning (it seems like it was) and RR wasn't going to tell anyone or how that was going to work out. I just don't see RR randomly telling someone in an interview that Nico was queer the way JKR did tbh.

I said above that I think there was always enough subtext in the first series that Nico's sexuality could go either way, so definitely thinking it was planned out. Heroes of Olympus is a big series, but it's not big enough to warrant a DUMBLEDORE IS GAY!!!! esque interview. At least he owned up and put a major queer character into the series, unlike JKR.

The fandom wank is probably just going to be as epic though.

Butting in to say that I love the idea of a more permanent Jason/Percy role reversal. Everything seems to be foreshadowing that as part of the conclusion and I think it would be a great way to represent the end of animosity/beginning of an alliance between the Greeks and Romans (which, obviously, was kind of the point in the first place, but it of course didn't work out that way xD).

I really find it interesting how much Percy--one of the most Greek people in my opinion--truly loved and felt at home in Camp Jupiter. Though part of that has to do with him imagining a happily ever after with Annabeth, bUT STILL. And also Jason feeling the most at home in Camp Half-Blood was cute too.

Almost all of it is due to the happily ever after, I think.

I'm new here, so hello all, I'm Lurch. I've stalked Jess's LJ since I read The Three Lives of Luke Castellan, and I have finally grown some balls and decided to post a comment on here ( ... )
